As part of our “Move the Embassy to Surabaya” program I gave a public lecture at the UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya University on Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. I engaged students on Canada’s ambitious priorities for the region and our growing relationship with Indonesia.

The next stop on the Embassy move to Surabaya was a meeting with Vice Admiral Denih Hendrata, Commander of the Second Fleet. We discussed the growing cooperation between 🇨🇦-🇮🇩 military’s, including increased training, military exercises & a ship visit to Surabaya last year.

While in Surabaya I visited a Midwifery Centre of Excellence at the University of Airlangga, funded by 🇨🇦 in partnership with UNFPA. Canada is playing a leadership role in supporting sexual & reproductive health & rights in Indonesia and is working to reduce maternal mortality.

Canada’s Embassy to Indonesia moved to Surabaya, East Java, for 3 days. Multiple Embassy programs participated in a series of outreach activities in Indonesia’s 2nd largest city, highlighting important commercial, cultural, development and military ties.

Great discussion on eliminating plastic waste in cooperation with 🇮🇩’s Ministry of the Environment & Forestry & other partners. All agree on the need for an ambitious int agreement to end plastic pollution. 🇨🇦 looks forward to hosting the next round of negotiations in April.

An honour to host Indonesia’s Panglima, Commander of the Armed Forces, General Agus Subiyanto. We discussed the growing cooperation between our militaries & opportunities for the future. Enhancing 🇨🇦’s military presence in the region is a priority of our Indo-Pacific strategy.

Happy election day! Our Embassy team today took part in Indonesia’s biggest democratic exercise by visiting several polling stations in Jakarta to observe the implementation of the general election. #IndonesianElection

Great to meet with Agri-food importers in Jakarta. The sector is an important engine of trade between Canada and Indonesia, over $1.1B in 2022. Fantastic to have such high quality Canadian products available in the market with more to come once trade in Halal beef resumes.
