The fabulous poster for the Norwich Castle Museum Snettisham exhibition in 1991. Behold just one of the torc hoards. Iron Age pits don’t get much better than that 🤩 (I’m assuming this is a @PhotoWebb snap??) #FindsFriday #BoudicaFriday #Echolands

@cmount1 @ucdarchaeology @IrishResearch @FabiennePigiere @ucdsocscilaw And 💩! Transporting manure seems a big focus among traditional agro-pastoralists
English

@JessHSmyth @ucdarchaeology @IrishResearch @FabiennePigiere @ucdsocscilaw That’s a great result. Animal traction would have assisted a range of activities from forest clearance, to moving large stones and bulk loads (grain and water), timber for house construction, ploughing, etc.

New 'Passage Tomb People' open access paper: first evidence for cattle traction in Ireland (& Britain) c.3600BC. What were they used for?! journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…

This week, we've been taking samples from some of our bog butter collections with @KarenOT101 and @JessHSmyth from UCD.
Among the first examples of bog butter from Northern Ireland to be sampled, they will help us date these objects and find out more about their uses!

@JackmanNeil @IrishTimes Thanks @JackmanNeil ! More in the pipeline on this amazing site. Watch this space!

Reading the news coverage of the @UCU #FourFights strike, I get the impression that many people don’t know what University lecturers do (and why would they?), so here’s a thread on it. I’m a psychologist, so let’s start with the work of the average psychology lecturer. 🧵👇1/18

@Hugh_Willmott @sheffielduni @UniShefArch Devastating news, and so short-sighted. Sheffield and Archaeology are synonymous. Thinking of you all today - utterly cruel treatment by your employer.
English

Graduated UCD in 2000, contemplating an MA in Landscape Archaeology. Had a scholarship to stay but a lecturer whispered to me "Go to @UniShefArch instead. It's the best one". They weren't wrong! Amazing course, amazing staff, transformative. #ArchaeologistMadeInSheffield

@urbanprehisto I nearly wasn't let through Munich airport security because I'd a cheese grater in my hand luggage. Potential weapon (they actually mimed the grating action)

🧵 I have a series of posts on my website (alisongarden.com) offering advice for #ECRs & #PhDs about my experience of applying for grants, postdocs & fellowships. But I absolutely do not want to perpetuate #SurvivorshipBias so I wanted to address this here.
English

@jameseogan @IrishTimes Ah this depressed me so much too! Tired tired 'Us v. Them' tropes. So much amazing open access research on ringforts - no excuse for this ignorance.
English

So @IrishTimes published this article on Saturday, like many Irish archaeologists my heart sank when I read it because of the depth of ignorance it displays of the work of current & past generations of our profession & the laws that apply 1/ irishtimes.com/culture/herita…
