On Mother’s Day, a reminder one of the most supportive things our society can do is build infrastructure that relieves them of the role of taxi driver—saving untold time, money and stress. While cities sit waiting for autonomous cars, they could be designing for autonomous kids.

I think it’s past time to call it — Vancouver is no longer a leader among cities in new urban biking & active transportation infrastructure. It’s now joined the ranks of cities that made strong progress in the past, but at best has stalled & in fact is sadly now moving backwards.

This is a huge step backwards for the city, one of several deliberate steps ABC has taken to ignore or even increase the physical risks for me and my family when moving around town.

for a story, I'm looking for parents to talk about their experiences (both positive and negative) with family tech tools like "smart" bassinets & baby sleep/O2 monitors. DMs open & my email can be found on my website (link in bio)

The childcare shortage is hurting #Vancouver families. Last week, OneCity proposed to immediately explore modular childcare options; Green and ABC Trustees rejected that plan for a report instead. Parents and kids can't keep waiting for ABC to act. onecityvancouver.ca/abc_trustees_t…

@RhiFaux @Vote4ABC Gross. Thanks for continuing to share these. Otherwise at face value people might think it’s actually a win for ABC.

Toronto is going to re-open it’s libraries📚on Sundays and extend their hours, a recognition of libraries’ growing importance as community hubs creating important health and social benefits. theglobeandmail.com/amp/opinion/ar… via @jen_keesmaat
Jennifer Keesmaat@jen_keesmaat

One of the things that may seem like a small thing, but when you consider that our library system has 2.8 million users - making it one of the most well used and celebrated library systems in the world, you start to realize this is a big thing: I was at City Hall when libraries were closed on Sundays due to budget cuts. I found this baffling. We were in the process of building several new libraries, and shortening the hours on the ones we already had. The buildings and the books and the computers and the community resources and the librarians already existed - but we shut down the hours of operation to save a few operating bucks. Seemed so short sighted. So...mean. Well in @MayorOliviaChow's first budget, she's opening libraries on Sundays. And extending hours. The nearly decade-long hiatus is over. This is an investment in our quality of life. (Below, the Scarborough Civic Centre Branch, which my @CityPlanTO team proudly played a critical role in advancing, designing and developing.)

And if we didn't need more reasons why CIty Council should leave @parkboard alone. Just last month Sim and the ABC council reversed the Britannia gym and pool upgrade in East Vancouver, which had been in the works for years. via @natecrompton #vanpoli
