Yesterday, I signed an Agreement in Principle with Minister @christineeboyle to replace the Luugat Hotel, St. Helen's Hotel, and Granville Villa in the Granville Entertainment District with new housing located outside the area. For months, we have been calling for a clear plan to transition residents out of these aging buildings and into better, purpose-built housing with the supports they need. This agreement is an important step forward, helping residents move into higher-quality housing outside the Granville Entertainment District while allowing Granville Street to move forward as a safe and vibrant entertainment corridor. This is real progress for Granville Street, for local businesses, and for workers.

Last week, the Provincial Government approved the VPD's new training academy. We know this is going to be a significant step forward for public safety in our city. Having the Woodward's complex in Gastown as the home of this new academy will help bring daily activity to the surrounding community while supporting the next generation of VPD officers. Check out my new video to learn more 👇🏻

The Province has approved the new VPD training academy at Woodward's! This news delivers what we've been promising to Vancouver: a safer city for both residents and businesses. Locating this academy at Woodward's will help bring consistent activity and a daily presence to the heart of our city as we work towards our long-term goal of Gastown renewal. This new academy was made possible with funding from a motion introduced by Councillor Brian Montague. The academy will increase the VPD's training capacity and will help improve operational flexibility. We're incredibly excited to see this academy become a cornerstone of preparing the next generation of police officers in Vancouver.

Today, I spoke with the Jas Johal Show on CKNW about our plan to transform Granville Street between Davie and Georgia into a vibrant pedestrian zone this summer.
For five weeks during the FIFA World Cup, this five-block stretch in the heart of Vancouver’s entertainment district will be dedicated to people. Granville Street will feature expanded patios, additional public seating, interactive art installations, and a mix of food and merchandise vendors—creating a lively gathering place for both residents and visitors to celebrate sports and soccer in our city.   Programming will be coordinated by the Downtown Vancouver BIA, with additional financial support from the City pending approval of a motion that I am co-sponsoring at council next week. The City will also provide enhanced sanitation and public safety services to support the initiative.   Beyond celebrating the World Cup, this pilot is an opportunity to test what a pedestrian-first, revitalized Granville Streetcould look like long-term—right in the heart of downtown, surrounded by restaurants, music venues, entertainment, nightlife, hotels and more.   I’m looking forward to seeing Granville come alive this summer and hearing your feedback as we explore the future of this iconic street. ⚽️ 🏙️ @downtownvan @FWC26Vancouver

Vancouver City Council is looking to increase the maintenance budget for sidewalks & roads by 3x from $34 million to $104 million over the next four years. For just sidewalks, there's a $500+ million repair cost & a 400-year-long backlog. #vanpoli #vanre dailyhive.com/vancouver/vanc…

Mayor Ken Sim and ABC took office with a clear mandate: restore safety in the DTES. We decamped East Hastings, invested in frontline public safety and mental health services, and revitalized Chinatown and Gastown. Today, shoppers are back, streets and public spaces are safer, and violent crime is at its lowest in 23 years. We’ve made real progress — but we can’t go backwards. Public safety is the foundation of a city that works. #vanpoli
