Oh, I haven't mentioned it, but Asanoyama's 12-3 in Juryo means he'll be back in Makuuchi in January. This will surely be his last go at the top division, and I'm hoping his story has a few more exciting chapters in it.
Day11 makushita action
Ms9 Kamito 3-2 (L)
Ms17 Enhō 3-2 (R)
Not his signature move but I’ll take it 🤗 It’s a KK bout for both (only 7 bouts a basho under jūryō) #kyushubasho2025
Endō is retiring as an active rikishi. It was already pretty obvious when Former Tenkaihō, a fun loving mood maker when active and as an oyakata, announced he was retiring as an elder from JSA - because his elder name of Kitajin was actually reserved for Endō. Will miss former Tenkaihō as a fun presence AND Endō as an active rikishi.
Day3
Km Abi 2-0 (L)
Oz Kotozakura 1-1 (R)
Even if Hoss is not at his best, Abi has looked great the first two days, with decisive wins. Zakura is looking as lackluster as last basho; the one before that he took the yūshō.. #harubasho2025
It’s not official yet but the recommendation has been passed on to Deliberation council for Hōshōryū to be promoted to Yokozuna. The fact that Teru just retired will likely only help his case. ProMotion likely. nikkansports.com/m/battle/sumo/…
Day12
Oz Kotozakura 5-6 (L)
M11 Takerufuji 8-3 (R)
How the winner here kept his balance then managed such a quick power win is.. my.
Takeru is up at the top: yesterday vs sekiwake Eishō, today vs Zakura and tomorrow vs komusubi Abi. #hatsubasho2025
Day14
Sw Kirishima 6-7 (L)
Oz Hōshōryū 12-1 (R)
Last bout. With win, Hoss can go into the final bout tomorrow vs Zakura tied with him, in a battle for the yūshō. Just maybe Kiri will surprise us. You never know. #kyushubasho2024
