One of the most misleading things about learning mathematics is that you are seeing the *output* of a great deal of trial, error, sweat, and tears, presented as if it’s obvious, or at best a product of cleverness.

@mpershan I feel like all of the people saying #1 aren’t looking at from an 8yo perspective. I think the first one is close to useless - “why are we adding when we are subtracting?!” While #2 clearly shows relationship to fact families. Checking w/ my 8yo confirmed

If we provide feedback without an opportunity for the student to use it to improve, we've simply told them what they're struggling with and then sent the message that we don't care enough to let them get better at it. Feedback can't just be leaving comments on a page.
