Jessica Lee, instructed by Natalie Gamble of NGA Law, represented the applicants in a recent judgment of C & Anor v E (International Surrogacy and Domestic Adoption) [2025] EWFC 68. In this case, Mr Justice MacDonald granted an adoption order to British parents of a child born through surrogacy in the USA. It is the first Judgment of its kind to explore fully the intricacies of the inter-country adoption rules in the circumstances of a child conceived through double donation and surrogacy. 1gc.com/published-case… @NatalieGamble_

Jessica Lee (instructed by Keeley Lengthorn at @RWKGoodman Solicitors) acted for the Defendant in Committal proceedings in the High Court. The Committal for contempt in the face of the court included the assault of a Family Court Judge (in 2023), for which the Defendant is currently serving a three-year term of imprisonment. Mr Justice Cobb determined that the Contempt in respect of the Defendant’s criminal conduct had been reflected by the prison sentence imposed by the Crown Court, and that the appropriate penalty for the remaining findings of Contempt was a consecutive term of five months imprisonment. 1gc.com/published-case… @k_lengthorn

In the recent landmark Court of Appeal judgment SA, Re (Declaration of Non-Recognition of Marriage) [2023] EWCA Civ 1003 Jessica Lee successfully responded to an appeal of a Declaration that a marriage was not recognised in E & W. The judgment covers a range of areas including; the application of Declarations under the inherent jurisdiction or statute; forced marriage cases and capacity issues. Two High Court judgments, London Borough of Barking & Dagenham v RM & Ors [2023] EWHC 1879 & EWHC 777, have been published today regarding a local authority’s application to disclose the mother’s HIV status to the father and within care proceedings more generally. Richard Jones and Melissa Elsworth acted for the local authority, Olivia Magennis and Jessica Lee acted for the respondent in the first and second set of proceedings respectively.
