@nickgraynews @colin_of_canada Okay. I need to know where you went. I'll be in Kyoto next week. Welcome back to Japan Nick!
English

@colin_of_canada Yes, it was so good! Honestly, I think the best one I’ve ever had

@nickgraynews Another fun fact: my son's friend plays Kendall's daughter. (my son is an actor, and she was his castmate in another series)
English

@nickgraynews Succession is a wild ride. You'll love to hate the characters. The performances are impressive. Soundtrack is perfect. Fun fact: My son would play the main theme song when walking on campus on his way to a final exam. Got him in the mood to conquer what awaited him.

Good morning! I don't have any major update today but just wanted to say Hi
I'm sitting outside at a cafe now in the sun with a woman I'm dating
We're drinking coffee and working on our laptops. It feels nice
I'm ordering things online and making a shopping list to go to the grocery store later
The past few days have been cold and rainy in Austin
But today the sun is out and it's 72F and beautiful
My birthday was last week and it felt nice to work all weekend on my new project and then give away that money for charity
I ended up making 26 donations of about $1k each
I'll pick a few of the orgs next week to make larger donations to hit my $43k goal
We were going to go to Mexico City this weekend but decided to just hang around town and it feels nice to get caught up
I have a bunch of house chores I want to do today:
Setup that new robot vacuum, install a new bidet, unpacking other Black Friday deals that are piled up in their boxes
Oh, I just finished the show The Diplomat on Netflix and I loved it
I guess I watch 3-4 shows per year
This year was Nobody Wants This, The Three Body Problem, and The Diplomat
What should I watch next? If I loved those 3
I have never seen Succession and I know people love it but it seems like a big commitment
Well, I'll finish up coffee and write my grocery list now
I hope you're well and smiling and happy and healthy
I'm rooting for you -- Nick

@UbigiOfficial Apology accepted, however, do we get a credit on our account? I was without service on Sept 6 and 7. I just started getting internet service on Sept 8. Two days of no service was very frustrating. No access to maps or translation apps really interrupted my ability to navigate.
English

@nickgraynews Nice to see you enjoying Victoria. Let me know if you pop over to Vancouver. It would be fun to meet up again.
English

@Lawrence_Sprung @nickgraynews @RyanDetrick @denisesprung My guess is that the cheese knives being taken away did not bring him joy
English

@nickgraynews haha... @RyanDetrick can relate
@denisesprung gave him a wrapped gift
It was a cheeseboard like this
TSA opened it and took ALL the cheese knives

The airport security man just took my knife and I am mad about it.
It is a puny little blade.
You could hardly grip it to stab a hot dog.
But he also took my little travel scissors.
And that made me spicy.
I’ve traveled with one of these Swiss Army travel cards off and on for a few years.
I like the toothpick. I like the tweezers. The emergency ballpoint pen is nice.
But I especially like the scissors.
I’ve used them to trim clothing, cut paper, and more.
I’ve never used the knife.
I sort of forgot it was in there.
But the look on the security guy’s face just now when he pulled the knife out of my backpack was priceless.
He looked as if I was planning to hijack the plane with this micro blade.
“Are you kidding me?” I said.
“Let me keep the scissors at least. Give those. They’re tiny. They are within regulation size.”
I have no idea if there is a regulation size, but I wanted to keep my scissors.
He shakes his head no. And now he decides to search through the rest of my bag.
I guess that without rounded tips, no scissors are allowed.
So my Swiss Army travel card has once again been stripped from my backpack.
I might buy another one and just pay the replacement tax every time it gets seized by an overzealous security person.
Until then, I still have my nail clippers.
They will do in a pinch.

Well, it finally happened to me. I was in the grocery store this evening, standing infront of the tea and coffee selections, and found myself really enjoying the song on the speaker above my head, I was literally tapping my toes. Thanks 2002 earworm ‘Escape’ by @enriqueiglesias

@nickgraynews It’s pretty cool, with a bang on view of the Uniqlo Ginza Flagship store.
English

@JessicaRozitis Yes, we briefly went up to the top of sunroof. I’m not sure if it was Ginza six but it might have been! If not, I’ll have to go check that one out. Is it great?

@jonclemonsjp Just wait until ‘the grade 5 defiance’….but then I had to secretly like this stage, because they were understanding their individualism and independence.

We're up early for one last sushi breakfast. Maybe a walk
I have a headache. It's probably the melatonin I took last night to help me sleep. But I’m determined to make the morning right
We arrive at the best spot in the old fish market. Hours went into finding this place but she doesn’t need to know that
Over a piece of tuna I ask: Do you even like me?
She smiles. "I'm still here, aren't I?"
// We walk in shops I otherwise would not
We stay out longer than I usually would
We sit to watch the city on a bench meant for two
We talk about the trip, what's back home, our past relationships
We search for ice cream and fake-fight about who should get the last bite
This is traveling together
// The train ride to Narita Airport seems shorter this time
She's at the window staring out. I am beside, typing these notes and thinking about how this whole thing got started
Posting my Tokyo Blind Date seemed like a fun excuse for me to go back to Japan
Maybe when you first heard about it you thought it was a gimmick or ridiculous
And I fully acknowledge that I am ridiculous
But I also got a look at something very real here. And stories that start ridiculous can end up very real and very deep
// There is no grand plan for an airport goodbye
We hug one last time as they call my flight for boarding
It is a good hug, a full body embrace that holds and lingers, and I know I will see her again
// Perhaps my story resonated with so many because we want the Internet to be a good place and we want people to find love
I mean, you don’t read my posts and say, “Yes I remember the time that I, too, solicited strangers on the Internet to go to Tokyo.”
Now I know a lot of people are hoping that this story ends with a proposal
Or that we both declare our love and I’m typing this in bed beside her right now
But I understand enough about relationships to know that a long weekend together is not enough for a lifelong commitment
And what this represents is a beginning
I first said that I just wanted to travel to Japan with someone cute
But I think I could not fully admit that I wanted to find a girlfriend
I could not admit that even to myself
I realize now that it is four years since my last serious relationship ended
I am getting older and wiser and yet I guess I have been alone for a very long time
This trip made me realize what I’ve been missing
Maybe I’m finally ready to share my life with someone again
// A beginning is a beautiful, wonderful thing
Whether that leads to Happily Ever After or it ends in an amazing blind date that I’ll remember for the rest of my life... I’ve at least learned that I’m ready to find that right person
If there is anything to take away from this experience it's this:
Please live a good story
Do it for the plot. I’m telling you it is worth it
And find someone to do it with you, because it is way more fun when you’re not alone
If you’re a person who is alone or afraid to step out into the world to find your person, know that for the last four years, that has been me
On this trip I’ve learned how foolish I was to wait for so long
So take my advice and learn from my example. Don’t think that you can’t seek someone special in the world and maybe find your person
There are people out there who are waiting for their beginnings with you, too
Seeking a beautiful beginning is what we should all be looking for
Because eventually beginnings lead to Happily Ever Afters

@nickgraynews The way you write…this is your next book.
When I met the two of you in Shinjuku Gyoen last Sunday, you definitely seemed compatible. If anything, you’ve made friends for life.
English

@jonclemonsjp @largo @mailshanx @nickgraynews I'm planning a getaway to Kyushu in June. Haven't been there since 2018. Would love some current recommendations.

@jonclemonsjp @nickgraynews Good meeting you as well Jon!
