WOW! There was a mass shooting in Illinois, and nobody is talking about it and we know why. A 16-year-old boy has been charged as an adult, and a 15-year-old girl has been charged in connection with a deadly mass shooting in Illinois. The 15-year-old girl, referred to as “W.T.,” is the granddaughter of victim Patricia May. She and her 16-year-old boyfriend, Ja’ymier Davis, are accused in the attacks. Davis has been charged as an adult with 5 counts of first-degree murder, dismembering a human body (allegedly cutting off Patricia’s thumb to access her phone and steal money), attempted murder, and other felonies. Disturbing texts between the teens referenced a "hit list" and willingness to kill family members. The girl's mother had reportedly warned police about a stolen gun and threatening messages beforehand. The 7 family members were shot at 3 locations, a park and two homes, in the East St. Louis area, with 5 victims dying from their injuries. Victims (all family members connected to the 15-year-old girl): Patricia A. May, 74 (grandmother, matriarch) Cherie L. May, 49 Devin D. May, 24 Shania W. Thompson, 25 Quentin L. Thompson, 21 Two others injured (survived).

Fifteen years ago this week, a Zimbabwean immigrant opened fire on three white women in Atlanta. On July 15 2011 Nkosi Thandiwe, a security guard, launched a racially motivated attack in a Midtown parking deck. He took the life of 26 year old Brittney Watts, left Lauren Garcia permanently paralyzed, and assaulted Tiffany Ferenczy. During his 2013 trial Thandiwe testified that his professors at the University of West Georgia taught him to hate white people. He told the jury, "I was trying to prove a point that Europeans had colonized the world, and as a result of that, we see a lot of evil today." He continued, "In terms of slavery, it was something that needed to be answered for. I was trying to spread the message of making white people mend." The judge called the attack random, hate filled, and heinous before handing down life without parole plus 65 years. We have a healthcare system where Black patients are too often ignored, misdiagnosed, and denied care. Black doctors save lives. Culturally competent care saves lives. We can't afford to lose that just because conservatives are uncomfortable with diversity.
