This is hugely unfortunate and a real sign of intellectual decline. Even today, there is still no substitute for a detailed book (ideally, several books) for gaining a rich understanding of a topic, and actively reading challenging books is the best mechanism for becoming a rigorous thinker. Podcasts (or worse, AI summaries) are a pale substitute.

Given the debt most college grads are saddled with upon graduation and the relatively low value of a bachelor’s degree, this is probably a net positive for men. Men are just onto the scam. If you don’t need the piece of paper, skip college, start your career, and build a business. Bypass the $200,000+ in debt. An unfortunate side effect however is that a lot of men will end up marrying women who need help paying off their loans. I’ve seen that exact dynamic play out many times.
