Bend the Arc: Jewish Action

“ICE is an affront to Torah.” Hundreds of rabbis, cantors, and Jewish leaders turned out to a massive protest outside ICE headquarters in Washington DC. Organized by T'ruah and Bend the Arc, it was the largest-ever Jewish faith protest against ICE. Watch highlights below:

You should hear me chant in Hebrew! Surah Ikhlas speaks to the one-ness of God, and it’s what I offer when I visit a mosque. It’s comparable in important ways to the Shema, one of the central prayers in Jewish liturgy, which also declares that God is one. I've been off twitter for the last few days so I'm a little late to saying this, but I'll say it anyway: Islamophobia enjoys a level of elite institutional support in a way that antisemitism simply does not. The San Diego attack should be evaluated and understood in that context.

This week, the House voted to expand ICE’s powers to go after people accused of shoplifting and minor retail crimes, enabling them to collect and share even more of our private data to aid their mass surveillance machine. And who was noticeably absent from the vote? My opponent. For all his talk of standing up to ICE, he is failing to show up when it matters and when our rights are actually on the line.
