Earlier today, mourners walked silently on West 72nd Street, accompanied only by a slow drumbeat. They entered Central Park, and solemnly placed each effigy on the ground one by one, standing in silent tribute. May this space of grief be a springboard for further action.

“We are Jewish elders who state emphatically that the ADL does not represent us,” according to Leslie Cagan, a member of the Jewish Elders group. “By characterizing criticism of Israel as antisemitic, the ADL has worked to crush dissent and free speech.”

As Jewish elders, we issued a failing report card on the ADL’s civil rights record, comparing the ADL’s stated commitments to its actual activities repressing social movements.
