Very sensible. -Use Max Captain in the tighter semi-finals instead. Why save it for a potentially higher-scoring gameweek when you can auto-captain someone in a 0-0 tactical trench war? Elite chip strategy. NASA are watching. -Don’t own Yamal because he “only has 20 points”. Ignore shots, penalties, role, volume and the fact he is Spain’s main attacker. Total points so far are the only data that matters. Underlying stats are for people who probably own spreadsheets and drink water. -Bring in Reece James and trust the minutes. What could possibly go wrong? He might start. He might not. He might play 60. He might be wrapped in cotton wool by half-time. Perfect semi-final asset. No notes. -Ignore Pedro Porro. Sensational use of transfers. Truly visionary. -Ignore France and Spain. Yes, they are favourites. Yes, they play earlier. Yes, they are likely to meet in the first semi-final slot. But have you considered buying a Belgian differential because “anything can happen”? Genius. Very brave. Probably illegal in some fantasy jurisdictions. -Chase every premium attacker. Mbappe, Messi, Kane, Dembele, all of them. Then fill defence with a man who might not start, a man whose name you learned four minutes ago, and a 3.8m left-back who has been seen warming up near the team bus. Balance is for cowards. -Avoid Pedro Porro because Cucurella has more points. Past points are famously a legally binding contract. Never mind goal threat or the fact Porro can pass to Yamal and collect an assist while barely breaking sweat. We only respect yesterday’s spreadsheet. -Pick Alex Baena because Spain are good. This is like buying a ticket to a Michelin-star restaurant and eating the napkin. Spain assets? Yes. The right Spain assets? Apparently optional. -Keep eliminated players. Vini Jr out? Richards out? Quite a few of you send me your drafts asking 'What transfers would you make?' I hope you don't take it the wrong way if I don't give a direct answer. As I've mentioned many times over the last season, it's simply not something I particularly enjoy doing. Fantasy, at least for me, has never been about telling someone to sell Player A and buy Player B. I'd much rather explain why I'm considering certain players, discuss structures, probabilities and different approaches, and hopefully help you reach your own conclusions. That's always been the objective of these previews. So if you have questions about chip strategy, player structures, captaincy, probabilities or the reasoning behind certain decisions, I'm always more than happy to discuss them. But when it comes to recommending exact transfers... I'd rather leave that final decision in your hands. At the end of the day, that's one of the most enjoyable parts of fantasy.
