A characteristic of being young is to be highly sensitive to the emotional cadences of one’s environment; to be highly vulnerable to any discord in the surrounding system. Viewed this way, the youth mental health crisis offers a damning assessment of wider societal life.

This perfectly sums up my life as a UN Independent Expert. In my case, Palestinians—and those who stand in solidarity with them—know very well how hard it is to speak the truth in a world where those with power and privilege have chosen to live a lie.
