The common feature there is Newcastle. They encouraged him to do an Isak despite being the “victims” of Isak. They then scored a Pyrrhic victory in securing him unfit and with Howe having no idea how to play him after not having worked with him through preseason. Wissa’s time at Newcastle being a bust is down to that start, which is all on them, and I’m even mildly sympathetic to him for since regaining fitness wondering what he’s doing there when barely played and then in an incoherent set up. Someone there might want to reflect on whether getting a bit more for Isak and paying most of that to get Wissa on the last day was a better thing to do than take something near the original and still IMO excessive Isak offer from Liverpool and probably getting Wissa for £10-15m less, fit and integrated in team and style for the start of the season. Man U started off silly with Mbeumo but by the time Wissa had gone on strike, got serious, and he’s been good for them.

Wissa needs booting out of the Club. Take a £55m PSR hit on him, I couldn’t care less. Bloke is a little baldy rat. Most unlikable player at the Club in recent memory, and he’s barely even played.

Exactly this. Many now critical of the signings last summer - Elanga, Wissa, Nick - but I can't recall even one complaint when we signed any of them, all seen as excellent signings at the time. Very easy to be wise/critical after the event.

On Woltemade/Wissa... I come back to, "managers don't pick teams, players do". Howe sees far more than any of us in training. He is picking the best team to win a game, of course he is. He referenced Osula training well when asked about Woltemade/Wissa absence - what does that tell you? It's not on Howe to pick them because they cost a lot of money, it's on any player to make himself selectable ahead of rivals in his position. Yes, he signed them last summer (albeit panicked & for inflated fees in final week) but a manager is allowed to change their mind based on what he sees. If Woltemade/Wissa want to play, it's on them.

The more you think about last summer’s transfer window, the more it has killed Newcastle’s season - and will also hamstring them in future windows. £222m worth of talent signed last summer (4 players) on the bench today, only getting a handful of minutes between them. If even two of them had been an immediate success (like Isak, Bruno G, Trippier, Burn etc were) #NUFC would be in a much stronger position and IMO in European places. In addition to the psychological problems when they go in front (25 point dropped from winning positions), it feels like there’s a real issue with staleness in the team. You can get away with one big-money signing not working out…but not 4 in one window. (NB. I think Ramsey is a player btw, but he’s not played enough due to injury).
