#senecaproud @SenecaAlumni @SenecaBusiness @SenecaPoly With more than 60 students from the Supply Chain Management Graduate Program, International Transportation & Customs, and Supply Chain & Operations programs, we explored what really happens after you click “buy" on the Amazon web site. During a virtual tour of Amazon’s fulfillment centres (FCs) from around the world, our students saw firsthand how employees pick, pack, and ship customer orders around the world. This experiential learning opportunity allowed them to connect classroom theory with real-world applications in inventory management, fulfillment processes, analytics, robotics, and IoT technologies. Thank you, Amazon, for this valuable experience!

@SenecaPoly @SenecaBusiness #senecaproud @SenecaAlumni NTT section - In the Supply Chain Management – Global Logistics graduate certificate program, our Supply Chain Professional Candidates (SCPC) in our other section NTT, kicked off Week 2 with an in‑house field trip to the Shipping & Receiving department. SCPCs had the opportunity to explore the loading docks, racking systems, hand pumps, electric lifts, and various pallet types—including red PECO and blue CHEP pallets—while observing the receiving process in real time. Our discussion highlighted the essential role that Shipping & Receiving plays within an organization, reinforced by the operations we witnessed during the visit. This hands‑on experience will serve as valuable “ingredients” as we move forward into the theoretical components of the Supply Chain in upcoming sessions. A sincere thank‑you to Christopher Num, our tour guide, and Omar Razzaq, Manager, for making this experiential learning opportunity possible.

#senecaproud @SenecaPoly @SenecaBusiness @SenecaAlumni What do Seneca Polytechnic and Amazon Fulfillment have in common? A shared commitment to continuous learning beyond the classroom walls. Students from Seneca’s Supply Chain Management – Global Logistics graduate certificate program (SCM), along with peers from International Transportation & Customs (TCS) and Business – International Business (BUI), recently took part in a virtual tour of Amazon Fulfillment Centers across France, England, Spain, and the United States. Together, they explored what really happens after clicking “Place your order.” From learning about random inventory systems and weight-based order verification to SLAM (Scanning, Labelling, and Manifesting) and final shipping, students experienced firsthand the precision, technology, and efficiency that define Amazon’s global supply chain. This experiential learning opportunity connected theory to real-world logistics — proving that innovation, data, and collaboration are the driving forces behind supply chain success. Just another example of how Seneca Polytechnic shapes industry-ready graduates who stand out from the rest.

@SenecaPoly @SenecaBusiness @SenecaAlumni #senecaproud Stop #2 on our DISC (Day In the Supply Chain) took us to PECO Pallet in Mississauga. We were warmly welcomed by Isabel Blackbird McMurrich, Manager of Marketing & Communications, who provided an excellent introduction to PECO’s pooled pallet system. Isabel shared insights into PECO’s unique customer programs and commitment to service excellence. This Industry Insight, included a tour of the faculty and highlighted how PECO’s focus on quality is not only built into their pallets, but also deeply embedded in their customer service model. This level of dedication has enabled PECO to build an extensive North American network, offering comprehensive transportation coverage across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Did you know that PECO pallets go through a 500 point inspection? Now you know! Thank you, Isabel, for helping our students truly understand what puts the “PECO” in the pallet.

@SenecaPoly @SenecaBusiness @SenecaAlumni #senecaproud Our first stop on DISC – Day In the Supply Chain was at Atlantic Packaging’s Corrugated Division in Brampton. We were welcomed by our host, Phil Watson, Design Manager & Packaging Consultant, who kicked things off with an engaging session: Corrugated 101. From designing, to flutes and heat starch to edge crush tests, box compression, water absorption, and score bend strength and more—the learning came fast and in layers. The subsequent plant tour brought all these concepts to life (although no photos were allowed), and gave students a whole new appreciation for what goes into making a carton and how vital its engineering is to ensure product contained arrives safety to the end user. They began the visit thinking, "a carton is just a carton." They left knowing just how much engineering and expertise is packed into every box to meet every purpose. Yes they left very impressed and "a carton in not just a carton." A heartfelt thank you to Neal Armitage (Corrugator Supervisor), Diana Nikolave (Converting Superintendent), Mike O’Shea (Operations Manager), and Akshay Sharma (Shipping Manager). The depth of knowledge and professionalism shared by the Atlantic team clearly reflects why Atlantic Packaging is a global leader in corrugated products.

#senecaproud @SenecaPoly @SenecaBusiness @SenecaAlumni Earlier this week, the ASCM Toronto Chapter, in collaboration with the Peel Chapter, hosted the second of two webinars in their Student Educational Forum series. This session focused on Sustainable Procurement and Logistics: Building Resilient Supply Chains. The agenda also featured a dedicated networking segment for both professionals and students. Participants included Supply Chain Professional candidates from Seneca’s Supply Chain Management – Global Logistics graduate certificate program, along with recent graduates and members of our upcoming summer cohort (semester starts May 6th). The session featured insightful discussions on the current and future relevance of sustainability in supply chains, introducing new ideas and perspectives. Networking extended beyond the webinar itself, as attendees continued connecting through LinkedIn. Well done to the ASCM Toronto and Peel Chapters on a successful event!

#senecaproud @SenecaBusiness @SenecaPoly @SenecaAlumni Our Winter semester may be over, but our Seneca ASCM student members—both graduating students and aspiring supply chain professionals—are still showing up and staying engaged. Why? Because they’re committed to their future careers and have embraced the mindset of continuous learning. They recently attended the first of a two-part webinar series this session the panel discussion focused on AI in the Supply Chain. This session brought together supply chain professionals to explore current challenges, share insights, and connect with one another through Zoom’s breakout “ROOMS” feature. Each room focused on a specific topic with a unique group of participants, fostering rich discussions and meaningful networking. The verdict? They’re already looking forward to Part 2! Just another example of how Seneca Polytechnic shapes industry-ready graduates who stand out from the rest.

#senecaproud @SenecaPoly @SenecaBusiness @SenecaAlumni Born in Ontario to parents who proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces, my life was shaped by values rooted in service, unity, and inclusion. My father’s role in fighting in another country’s conflict taught me the importance of sacrifice and global peace. My mother’s work at the Royal Military College in Kingston immersed me in a world of diverse cultures, as I met military personnel from across the globe. As I grew, I built friendships with people of every background—guided by mentors from many walks of life. They helped me understand the Canadian way: listening with respect, welcoming all perspectives, and embracing criticism as a chance to grow. From playing hockey,,football, baseball and soccer to trying my hand at cricket, sport connected me to others and strengthened my Canadian identity. No matter where I’ve travelled, the Canadian flag has always flown with me—proud and visible. Today, I share my love for Canada with my position as a Professor at Seneca Polytechnic, with my international students, showing them what it truly means to be Canadian: respectful, inclusive, and proud. My name is Jim Wyer—and I am a proud Canadian!

@SenecaPoly @SenecaBusiness @SenecaAlumni #senecaproud Thursday, 6:00 PM. The hallways seem quiet… or are they? Suddenly, voices rise, growing louder and LOUDER. What’s going on? It’s the SAP Simulation Game—where students from our Supply Chain Management and Purchasing & Supply Management programs have dedicated their evening to compete for the SENECA ALUMNI CUP! Joining them are Seneca alumni, stepping in as consultants to guide the teams, alongside Professors Thomas Perdue, Jim Wyer, and our brilliant creator and moderator, Professor Sophia Yi. Some students arrive with teams, while others form new connections, building friendships and camaraderie through the challenge. After several intense rounds, the clock strikes 9:00 PM, and the champions emerge: 🏆 Team B – Yuvraj Thukral, Sudeep Elesela, and Shanas Samarakoon! Congratulations! What an unforgettable experience! #senecaproud @SenecaBusiness @SenecaPoly @SenecaAlumni With the trade war with the United States intensifying, gaining a clear understanding of how tariffs are applied — including when, by whom, and who is initially responsible for paying these taxes — has become crucial. These questions and more were explored in a webinar hosted by the ASCM Western Canada Chapter in Vancouver. Our Supply Chain Professional candidates from the Supply Chain Management - Global Logistics graduate program at Seneca College joined the session virtually to gain insights from a western perspective. A special thank you to Seneca friend Greg Henderson, President of Export Spark, and the outstanding team at ASCM Western Chapter — Manly Sitter, Anna Ciccarelli, and others — for organizing this informative event. The discussions were so engaging that the session went into overtime with a flurry of questions and conversations.
