@SenecaPoly @SenecaBusiness @SenecaAlumni #senecaproud Our first stop on DISC – Day In the Supply Chain was at Atlantic Packaging’s Corrugated Division in Brampton. We were welcomed by our host, Phil Watson, Design Manager & Packaging Consultant, who kicked things off with an engaging session: Corrugated 101. From designing, to flutes and heat starch to edge crush tests, box compression, water absorption, and score bend strength and more—the learning came fast and in layers. The subsequent plant tour brought all these concepts to life (although no photos were allowed), and gave students a whole new appreciation for what goes into making a carton and how vital its engineering is to ensure product contained arrives safety to the end user. They began the visit thinking, "a carton is just a carton." They left knowing just how much engineering and expertise is packed into every box to meet every purpose. Yes they left very impressed and "a carton in not just a carton." A heartfelt thank you to Neal Armitage (Corrugator Supervisor), Diana Nikolave (Converting Superintendent), Mike O’Shea (Operations Manager), and Akshay Sharma (Shipping Manager). The depth of knowledge and professionalism shared by the Atlantic team clearly reflects why Atlantic Packaging is a global leader in corrugated products.

It’s that time of the semester again: DISC — Day In the Supply Chain! They’re students from our Supply Chain Management – Global Logistics (SCM), International Transportation & Customs (TCS), and Purchasing & Supply Management (BAO) programs, ready to take learning beyond the classroom. Today, our students will step outside the classroom to gain real-world insights by visiting two key players in the supply chain industry: Atlantic Packaging and Peco Pallet. Let the learning adventure begin… all aboard the bus! Just another example of how Seneca Polytechnic shapes industry-ready graduates who stand out from the rest.

We were warmly welcomed by Isabel Blackbird McMurrich, Manager of Marketing & Communications, who provided an excellent introduction to PECO’s pooled pallet system. Isabel shared insights into PECO’s unique customer programs and commitment to service excellence. This Industry Insight, included a tour of the faculty and highlighted how PECO’s focus on quality is not only built into their pallets, but also deeply embedded in their customer service model. This level of dedication has enabled PECO to build an extensive North American network, offering comprehensive transportation coverage across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Did you know that PECO pallets go through a 500 point inspection? Now you know! Thank you, Isabel, for helping our students truly understand what puts the “PECO” in the pallet.
