@georgeofman Toews first season with @NHLBlackhawks was 2007-08. He was drafted in 2006 but stayed in college for one more year. Toews and Kane were rookies together in the 2007-08 season.

So, the basis of the team began 7 years before the first Cup. Toews came in 06 and Kane in 07 along with Versteeg. Campbell signed in 08, Hossa in 09. And don't forget that the addition of Quennville as coach.
