Beware of following Christ for anything other than Christ. Secondary motives always corrupt true discipleship. Some follow for benefit, for comfort, for answers, for reputation, or even for escape. But when those things fade, so does their devotion. “You seek Me… because you ate of the loaves and were filled” (John 6:26). Jesus does not call us to use Him, but to come to Him. “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me” (Luke 9:23). That is not built on gain, but on surrender. True faith is not anchored in what we receive, but in who He is. “Whom have we in heaven but You? And besides You, we desire nothing on earth” (Psalm 73:25). So we follow Him, not for what He gives, but because He is worthy. If we follow Him at all, let it be for His own sake.
