I have said it before and I’ll say it again, when that many residents show up and feel like they weren’t heard, it raises a bigger question about whether the process itself is working the way it should.

IMHO, this is a bad day for the public —for Indianapolis as a whole. Get ready for homogenized news. One corporate POV. Fewer journalists covering the stories we care about and need to know. Less accountability for those in power!

@Jim_SullivanIN I count 4 independent tv stations in existence, as of yesterday. Now, I count one, plus 3 others owned by one company. Depending on viewer consumption numbers, that may constitute a monopoly, and therefore, may be illegal.

That said, that ‘watchdog’ role has taken some hits lately. I saw Gallup now has trust in mass media at just 28%, and a Pew Research showing national news trust around just 56%. Bias, ignored stories, and everyone running the same narrative— it all chips away at real accountability that is so vital to our society.

@nickmparisi You're right…. But handing too much local journalism to one company risks less diversity & real scrutiny. In Indy, Nexstar's Tenga deal closed but they must divest WTHR within 2 years, so no permanent triopoly yet. Consolidation can kill unique voices & investigative depth.

@SSJIndy Well, I think it simply can’t. Resources are going to be stretched thin. Experienced journalists with deep local networks—the ones who can really get to the heart of the issues—will be missing from the beat. Ultimately, we’re the ones who are about to get the shaft as the public.

A juvenile was shot inside a Loop hotel overnight, according to witnesses and CPD.
So far, the Loop has seen more people shot year to date in 2026 than any year since at least 2019.
