Ortiz was released, not DFA’d. Schwarber was non-tendered, not DFA’d. Wakefield was released, not DFA’d. J.D. Martinez was the only one actually DFA’d. Curtis Mead was DFA’d because multiple teams watched him struggle to hit consistently while offering limited defensive value. Could he become useful? Absolutely. But using three incorrect examples to suggest every DFA is David Ortiz with a fake mustache is peak prospect propaganda.

I think it’s time to accept Wilyer Abreu for who he is. Stellar outfielder that’s going to hit 250 or so with 20-25 homers. Good player but we need better in the 3 hole. Hopefully mead can be that guy but I also think he fits better in the 5 hole where I like Wilyer #dirtywater

The trade of Mead is not the problem here. This all goes back to poor management over the last 5 years. Instead of moving bums like Casas, Campbell, Mayer, Anthony, etc. they held on to them, and they all are busts, so now you have to trade the best pitching this organization has had in decades because of that mismanagement.

As somebody who (admittedly) overvalued Connelly Early, I think there's a lot of people overvaluing Connelly Early right now. I'm actually more concerned about the defensive downgrade at 3B if they move Durbin to 2nd.

I like Connelly Early a ton. It felt like he was going to be the odd man out once Jake Bennett broke out, because he had the larger sample size of success to use as a trade chip. Yes it was a 3.44 ERA this year, but the 4.62 FIP and 4.34 xFIP told a bit of a different story. There was a lot that screamed backend starter, especially since he didn’t have the frame of a Tolle or Bennett. Wonder if the Red Sox feel like they’re selling high on Early too before those numbers came down to Earth. If you’re a Nationals fan, you should love this. Controllable starter for an organization that badly needs it. At the same time, if Curtis Mead is anything close to the hitter he’s been this year, the Red Sox are getting an impact controllable bat they’ve been starving for too. You just better be right about the breakout, but the data backs it.

@onfoenemJD5 @NicholasUber @tylermilliken_ I’m not saying he’s gonna be a hall of famer. I just like the underlying metrics. Also, he’s only 25 years old, it’s very possible he just figured it out. Takes some guys longer than others. We will see.

The White Sox DFA’d Curtis Mead at the end of March this season and Washington traded for him in what was seen as a complete throw away deal 4 months later, they flip him for a young, extremely controllable starter Let this new Nationals regime COOK
