Quick update on the surplus value of Curtis Mead. There was an error because it had him at 3.4 years of control remaining. However, it’s 4.4 years, so his median value is about $21M. Originally this was rejected, but now it’s approved as a major overpay. Normal at this time.

I don’t understand where this massive track record comes from on Connelly Early. He wasn’t even being mentioned in the prospect world a year ago. Not a Top 100 guy. Had a great run over 5 starts at the end of 2025 and has put together a good 2026 with everything underneath the hood screaming regression. Curtis Mead was a former Top 30-40 prospect who struggled to find his footing in his first 3 big league seasons, but has broken out with the metrics backing it in a big way in 2026. Early is in his age-24 season. Mead is in his age-25 season.

I like Connelly Early a ton. It felt like he was going to be the odd man out once Jake Bennett broke out, because he had the larger sample size of success to use as a trade chip. Yes it was a 3.44 ERA this year, but the 4.62 FIP and 4.34 xFIP told a bit of a different story. There was a lot that screamed backend starter, especially since he didn’t have the frame of a Tolle or Bennett. Wonder if the Red Sox feel like they’re selling high on Early too before those numbers came down to Earth. If you’re a Nationals fan, you should love this. Controllable starter for an organization that badly needs it. At the same time, if Curtis Mead is anything close to the hitter he’s been this year, the Red Sox are getting an impact controllable bat they’ve been starving for too. You just better be right about the breakout, but the data backs it.

@tylermilliken_ And the contender Red Sox should feel fine about overpaying a bit!! This is exactly what we've wanted, a win-now buying move that addresses both gaps and surpluses. Love Early but not getting sentimental. Good trade. Plus the Lockout, who knows what that does for Early's growth.

@MLBTheShow What have you done to packs? I havnt pulled anything over an 86 in weeks and weeks. Havnt seen an ohtani or judge all season. Somewhere about a month ago you guys did something to packs and they are horrific. Chase packs are way worse than they've ever been.

@TolleEnthusiast I’d be open to moving basically anyone except Arias. If that lessens the quality of return I’m ok with it, SS is a long term need for the club that Arias will fill for a longtime. Can’t move off of that.
