According to the report, Wiles attempted to explain the decision to Trump thoroughly, while Vance, for his part, urged others to inform Trump of the risks and questioned how "any" war with Iran would play out. In the lead-up to the Iran war, hawkish “Trump supporters” have been maneuvering to sideline Vance, as he emerges as a liability, caught between factions and increasingly targeted in a proxy media battle that has eroded his standing as a future Republican nominee. Rubio’s odds of becoming the 2028 Republican nominee have risen over the course of the war, while Vance’s have fallen. Vance’s camp has used the media to paint Vance as quietly opposed to the war, while Vance himself has publicly supported the President and advised voters to trust his judgement in handling the war.
