Red pressers fail to understand that changing the wording or making contrived allegories changes the optimal answer because it changes the average answer, and the scenario is entirely dependent on the average answer

We're doing the "Blender" game again There is a large blender. Everyone in the world has to decide whether to step into the blender. If at least 50% of the people do step into the blender, it will be unable to overcome their inertia to get started, and everyone survives. If less than 50% of the people step into the blender, then they all get blended up into paste and die. People who do not step into the blender suffer no adverse effects. Would you step into the blender? (Blue=step into the blender, Red= don't do that)

@SlightLegato @TrueSlazac The blue button is the only one with any risk of anyone dying. (if you change the hypothetical by taking away the red button and just make it sitting in a room for 5 minutes with the blue button the results change) the red button is equivalent to not having to play

If you ask people "do you want to step into a blender" and if you asked them "do you want up to 49% of the world to die?", the answer would be the same.

You and 9 other people are vacationing in Mexico and are on a tour in Jalisco sampling tequila... Some really sadistic cartel members from Jalisco New Generation carjack the tour bus and kidnap the 10 of you and bring you to a deserted warehouse. They line everyone up in a circle and tell you that they are going to torture and kill you, with the condition that if you say you want to be released they'll simply release you. But, if you say you want to stay they'll torture and kill you by shooting your in the face and dump your body in a steel drum out in the middle of nowhere. They're standing there with a razor, a blowtorch and a gun and you'll be shot in the face when they're done if you don't say you want to be released. However, if 5 or more people say they want the torture and death they'll release those people too. What do you do? Also, as an aside - what do you think a mother of 4 would want their 8, 9, 11 and 13 year old kids to select? Do you think your kids are sociopaths who just want to live in a world with red button pushers?

The game relies on the fact that it is framed to make some people want to pick the blue button by default. Make it more obvious that Red guarantees survival and the poll changes

With how this is worded red kills people. There is 0 realistic scenario where 0 people pick blue.
So you are executing people.
You pick red the blue deaths are more on you.
That's why people pick blue

New Trolley problem has arrived, only it's dumber. Pres Red - 100% chance of living. Blue - Non-zero chance of dying. It has nothing to do with empathy for others unless you're stuck on suicidal empathy, which is YOUR fault, not mine. There is ZERO logical reason for ANYONE to press blue. NONE.

If nothing else that shows the power of how the question is framed. The result actually changes if it's just a blue button for example

If you press the button, you die unless at least 50% of the group presses the button. You can leave after 5 minutes. Do you press the button?

This isn't an exercise in logic or ethics or game theory or anything like that, it's an exercise in *semiotics*.
Something about this *framing* of the problem, in English, on Twitter, messes with your head and makes you pattern-match to problems where blue is the better answer.

However you make the decision, some others are thinking about it the exact same way which means the group of you actually form an implicit coalition.

Most people are approaching the red/blue question from the PoV of your contribution to the outcome. In reality, with 8 billion people, your marginal contribution to the outcome is 0. So we end up with this discussion about morality. But the question is more interesting: what is your theory of mind about what would the outcome be without your vote?
If I thought most people would press red, I'll press that too. Not because I want to "contribute" to the outcome, but because I think the outcome is already determined.
There was a poll running around where you were the last vote, and the results were shown to you at that point. The current split is 50/50. Results were >90% blue!
I'd be curious to see the other way around: you are the last one. 60% pressed red. What do you do?

Interesting is how changing it from pressing a button to something like stepping into a woodchipper or taking poison is only a semantic difference but has radically different polls
