Wasting millions of pounds on the Senedd during a cost of living crisis cannot be justified. These two Blaenau Gwent voters speak for Wales.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧 The last time a foreign army invaded Britain, a Welsh cobbler sent them home. With a pitchfork. 🍴 Her name was Jemima Nicholas. Born in Mathry, Pembrokeshire. 1755. A cobbler. Not a soldier. Not a general. On the 22nd of February 1797, four French warships anchored off the Welsh coast. 🚢 1,400 soldiers came ashore at Carreg Wastad Point. Many of them were convicts and deserters. Their plan was to march on Bristol, start a revolution and inspire the British poor to rise up. It did not go to plan. A ship had recently wrecked nearby. Its cargo was Portuguese wine. 🍷 The French found it. Within hours, the invasion force was drunk. Jemima heard what was happening. She reached for her pitchfork. And walked out to meet them. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 She found twelve French soldiers. They were drunk. She rounded them up, marched them to the church, and locked the door. She wasn't the only one. Hundreds of Welsh women came out of their homes in their traditional red shawls and tall black hats. 🟥 From a distance, after a glass or two of Portuguese wine, they looked exactly like British Redcoats. On the 24th of February, two days after they landed, 1,400 French soldiers surrendered. ⚖️ Unconditionally. The surrender was signed in a pub. It was the last time a foreign army set foot on British soil. 🇬🇧 Jemima Nicholas was awarded a pension of £50 a year for the rest of her life. She died in 1832. Her gravestone reads: "The Welsh heroine who boldly marched to meet the French invaders who landed on our shores." Did they teach you her name? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Jemima Nicholas was almost forgotten forever. So were thousands of others. Every time you support this channel, more of them survive. Be Part Of Us. Be Proud Of Us. 🇬🇧 proudofus.co.uk

The hamlet that was at the core of what's now Falmouth in Cornwall was called "Pen y Cwm Cuic", said like "penny coom quick". It means "head of the narrow creek". The area's been known in modern times as Pennycomequick. It's no longer an official place name, but there's a pub in the area named after it. The Cornish for Falmouth is "Aberfala" ("mouth of the river Fal").

No no @bphillipsonMP - they are not ‘free’ breakfasts, lunches, clothes etc. someone has to pay for this and it’s the hard pushed taxpayers. You are so happy to give out ‘free’ stuff without any idea how to grow the economy in order to pay for it. Financially illiterate the lot of you. #NeverLabour

This government is focused on the cost of living. At @educationgovuk, we're saving families cash: £450 on free breakfast clubs £50 on school uniforms £500 on free school meals £300 on school holiday clubs Now it's confirmed we've halved childcare costs, saving parents £8,000.

In a little over 24 hours time former colleagues and friends will gather in silence outside Parliament to remember Metropolitan Police Constable Keith Palmer GM (George Medal posthumously). PC Palmer, whilst unarmed tackled a knifeman attempting to carry out a terrorist attack within the grounds of the British Parliament on the 22nd March 2017. His actions allowed other officers to confront and shoot dead his attacker but not before PC Palmer had received a fatal stab wound. Pictured; 1. Floral tributes laid by the public opposite the site of Keith's murder. 2. The Memorial to Keith outside the gates of the Palace of Westminster. 3. Book of remembrance for fallen officers The Mall, London. 4. Chief Inspector (Supt) Wynne City of London police laying a wreath for Keith handed to him by family members of knife crime victims. A touching display of respect between a man and his fallen colleague. Two men who likely never met but unbreakably joined in a shared duty to each other and to us. A fleeting moment in time as many passed without notice as busy London life moved on. An image I was deeply moved by and am proud to have paused and witnessed. Thank you to all our police who day in day out face such threats on our behalf.
