@HoopsReference Which is exactly why that role should’ve always been McCain’s instead of Grimes smh. Should’ve dumped Grimes to duck the tax. Probably still would’ve gotten a couple 2nds and have the much better and cheaper player moving forward
English

@Ilegvm Same thing with early millennials. I was born in 1986 and had the same experience as this guy. Played outside all day and parents had no idea where I was, no computer at home until high school, no social media until after college, semi tech savvy, etc lol
English

Great article as always. I think the only path forward is banking on VJ becoming a star and basing every decision around how to best contend in the 2029-2035 window. 2026-2028 are already cooked. There is no possible path to contention. The only glimmer of hope they had was McCain becoming some version of Steph Curry-lite, which they could’ve then moved one of Maxey/McCain for a better fitting 3rd star but we traded that dart throw for a late 1st and a bunch of 2nds we’ll use to duck to the tax

Sam Hinkie in his resignation letter 10 years ago:
"Many [teams] find themselves caught in the zugzwang, the point in the game where all possible moves make you worse off"
On the Sixers' long term outlook and whether we are now in the zugzwang:

@AdamSchefter If the Bears got a 2nd for DJ Moore, Eagles should easily get a 1st+ for AJ Brown
English

@JoeGabrielJr Yes, since his money is currently structured as base salary, that obligation would get transferred to the new team.
Which brings up a great point, my original post is a bit nonsensical because it wouldn’t make sense for them to cut him instead of trade him
English

If the Eagles traded for Maxx Crosby, here is what his cap impact would look like, assuming maximum restructures & cutting him post 6/1 in 2028
2026 → $7.7M
2027 → $13.4M
2028 → $11.3M
2029 → $28.1M

Thomas R. Petersen@thomasrp93
Eagles are "keeping tabs" on Maxx Crosby availability, per @AlbertBreer. #Eagles
English

@EaglesXsandOs I guess the other option would be that if this current run of contention is winding down in 3 years and they need a mini reset, they could try to trade him and recoup some value. I assume from cap perspective that would be the same as a cut if also post June 1?
English

@JoeGabrielJr Good point, they could play out the rest of the contract but then they need to either absorb a large cap hit while he’s still on the team or foot a pretty large dead $ bill at the end
English

@JoeGabrielJr @yashar Yeah, but where I live there is only company you can have service with by phone internet. No other company allowed S.C.!!

BREAKING
Netflix says it is backing out of a bid to acquire Warner Brothers, which means that David Ellison’s Paramount is likely to move forward as the primary bidder and potentially take control of the company that owns Warner Bros., CNN, HBO, and a vast portfolio of film, television, and streaming assets.

@thomasrp93 Baun is by far the best player of the 3. He’s the only elite player in the group and is extremely important in Fangio’s scheme. I would not be looking to get off of Baun in a year
English

Could Howie extend Dean with the idea being him and Jihaad as the LB duo in the future?
In 2027, Eagles can save 8.5 mil by releasing Baun post June 1st
If they backload Dean's contract, the cap hit could effectively kick in once they're off Baun's contract.

@therealmikekb What in the world is this statement? There were countless paths
English

Without trading one of Embiid/Maxey/George the #sixers had virtually no paths to meaningfully improve the roster at the deadline. The lack of moves isn’t a surprise.
English

@ron_spurr @ZBerm @Jeff_McLane Stout coached the offense in the Super Bowl with Nick Foles at QB. He can coach any system imaginable. Siriani is just an idiot
English

@ZBerm @Jeff_McLane Stoutland’s Olines thrived in the shotgun, RPO, read-option offenses that go back to Chip Kelly. The NFL has pretty much legislated the RPO out of the game with the over-officious lineman downfield calls. I guess the Eagles felt they needed a new approach.
English

My understanding is Stoutland’s role was going to be adjusted this season.
As @Jeff_McLane reported last week, the run game coordinator responsibilities shifted last season.
Zach Berman@ZBerm
The Eagles wanted Stoutland back, according to a league source. It sounds like this was Stoutland’s decision to step away. From my understanding, he’ll still be welcome around the team in an unofficial capacity.
English

You’re right but that shouldn’t be a foregone conclusion lol. They never think outside the box even a little bit. Why wasn’t it even a consideration to bring Bader back at that number? He wanted to come back, the clubhouse loved him and you’re counting on so many things going right in the outfield. They don’t have a single surefire every day player. If it turns out they don’t need him, they could easily trade him for a prospect
English

@JoeGabrielJr @TheGoodPhight I agree, but that was never going to happen.
English

1. If your solution is Justin Crawford hitting in the top 2 that’s insanity. Putting that much pressure on a kid is nuts
2. Yes, you can hit Schwarber 4 and someone else 2 maybe? But I want Schwarber up there as much as possible and hitting him 4 loses so many ABs
The Good Phight@TheGoodPhight
We legitimately don’t have a cleanup hitter. It can’t be either of these two, Marsh can’t hit a LHP so no thanks, Stott they’ll have bunt for whatever reason, certainly can’t be JT. Fun times!
English

@BobbyCash215 @SportsRadioWIP @AfternoonsWIP Edgecombe blows? Lol ok bud. With PG out, he’s easily the 3rd best player on the Sixers as a rookie. He has 2-way star written all over him. Edgecombe is D Wade if Wade could shoot threes
English

@JoeGabrielJr @SportsRadioWIP @AfternoonsWIP Lol Edgecombe will be a top 10 player. I just laughed in a room by myself. He’s not a top l0 player on the Sixers. He flat out blows
English

@Tjonesonthenba No one cares about 2nd round picks. They’ll be used to dump salary to duck the tax in future years most likely. The 1st is likely the only asset they got that they’ll be using to strengthen the team
English

What does that have to do with anything? He clearly outperformed his draft slot. His value is down this year bc he’s played poorly but you have to take the chance that next year he returns to form at which point he’d be worth much more than this return. Makes no sense unless it’s to get around the Stepien rule with another move
English

@JoeGabrielJr @Tjonesonthenba Not true. lol McCain was drafted where?
English

Signing a free agent isn’t the only way to acquire a catcher. They continue to churn in one uncreative offseason after the next, leaving them with a need to burn assets at the deadline to plug holes everyone could see were holes in the offseason. The front office has fumbled a golden opportunity to win a ring with this core over the last several years
English

@JeffKerrPHL The best catcher on the market is a player in serious decline. They grossly overpaid for him, which prevented them from fixing problems elsewhere in the lineup. JTs dollars could've gone to Bader or some other player like Suarez to keep Bohm out of the 4-hole. Poor job by DD.
English

The #Phillies signed the best catcher on the market. That catcher just happened to be the one they had.
Elevate the conversation. I know that’s difficult these days.
David Esser@DavidEsser_
This really isn't the "gotcha" people think it is. Dombrowski gets paid literal millions of dollars to improve the roster and come up with creative solutions. It's not random fans on Twitter's job to outperform a baseball GM.
