Help us save these beautiful cattle! The Slavonian Podolian cattle breed is critically endangered, with well under 300 adult cows left in existence. We are on a mission to help preserve this majestic ancient breed from extinction, and are starting a fundraiser to help us acquire more Slavonian Podolian cattle, with the goal of establishing a large, thriving herd. The Slavonian Podolian (also called Slavonian-Syrmian Podolian or Croatian Podolian) is one of only a handful of surviving true Podolian breeds. These breeds are among the most direct and genetically pure descendants of the extinct aurochs (Bos primigenius), the ancient wild ancestor of domestic cattle. As such, true Podolian cattle are highly sought after for back-breeding programs geared towards recreating the aurochs phenotype — reconstructing the aurochs with the genetics preserved in its descendants — for rewilding and environmental conservation efforts. All true Podolian cattle breeds are, at present, either endangered or, like the Slavonian Podolian, critically endangered. So, how do we intend to reinvigorate this beautiful and unjustly neglected breed? We have a plan... Of course, since the remaining population is so small, every farm makes a big difference. However, we believe chance has put us in a uniquely advantageous position to help preserve the Slavonian Podolian, as our farm is located in central Croatia, a mere half-hour drive from Zagreb, the country's capital — a major city with a million residents, and a popular tourist destination. Our three Slavonian Podolian heifers are the only representatives of their breed in this region, the others being confined to the eastern part of the country, where urban centers — and, thus, also opportunities for commerce — are much smaller. A large herd of Slavonian Podolians this close to the capital would go a long way towards helping establish a brand, and make the breed once again prized as a source of high-quality beef, incentivizing more farmers to raise them. The region we live in is called Turopolje, which translates to "Plain of the Aurochs", so help us bring the mighty aurochs back to its plain — back home.

I’ll suggest that we as a people didn’t get us into this situation but rather our corrupt government. We allowed it though, it’s hard to concentrate on what government is doing when you work 70-80+ hours a week for decades to survive. I’m a boomer, btw. The exit from the gold standard by Nixon really started the housing and real estate market to explode in price, out reaching the ability of the average American to purchase. Our dollar has been in free fall since, while our labor market has lagged behind in purchasing power. Over the decades we have allowed excessive government regulation to further inhibit purchase power while raising real estate prices via regulation. I’ll take your presumption that we (boomers) allowed this to happen but it’s not because we were complacent, rather many of us were too busy surviving to understand fully what the government was doing to us.
