I knew many folks when I lived in Florida who were more concerned that their team, FSU, Miami or UF, won the in state rivalries… always the priority. I’d take BYU beating Utah any year regardless of whether we make it to the Big12 Championship. The local vibe, dominance, is way more important.

I have a take: What talking heads don’t understand is that college sports at its core is not about crowning a national champion. It’s about regional pride, beating your rival, and vibes. Those who disagree would be far happier covering the NBA or NFL.

He knows he’s untouchable. Therein lies the problem.

@NdMuse What’s embarrassing is that ND doesn’t have to play a “play-in” game and is lacking in almost every metric compared to BYU, but is considered “in.” What’s even more embarrassing is canceling the home and home series with BYU to avoid have a real schedule.

Okay, so Bama is out with a loss? Just making sure I follow the logic? And NotreDame is in without a top 5 win? Just making sure. And TAM is in purely by virtue of their preseason anchor rating, not because of their tough schedule? Correct? Oh, and BYU dropped 5 spots losing to #4 and TAM dropped 4 for losing to #16. Got it, makes complete sense.

Why haven’t we spent more time talking about BYU and its place in the rankings? Because BYU is in the CFP already. It’s first game is Saturday.

Pig roast coming. Utah fans can hate BYU all they want. If you can’t stand them & want them to lose every game, & that’s your jam, great, keep on trucking brother. Rivalry is rivalry. Hate BYU forever if that’s your thing. But let’s not pretend the guys running that place didn’t come from our house. And now that they’re out there repping our conference & our State, I’m not above giving them props to go crash the P2 cartel wall. Look man, the Pig is always looking toward the future & loves to predict things based on what I see; trends, conditions, facts, logic, & history. And I don’t want Utah getting the same hose job treatment BYU is getting now when we’re in that position again. We’ve been there before, we’ll be there again, & we know exactly how this works. These guys need to set a precedent, someone else needs to carry the torch. When we busted the BCS, we set a precedent that a G5 can make the show. When we made the Pac12, we set a precedent that a G5 can make a P5. When we won two P5 titles, we set the precedent that a former G5 can win a P5 conference. And we’re STILL the only former G5 to have won a P5 title, let alone two. We are the BCS Busters, maybe the Cougars can be the CFP Busters. So don’t get too twisted when Weddle, Bryce, & Pig Bus are out here saying “Go Kalani.” Hate BYU all you want, it’s all good if that’s your thing. But the reality is simple, if we had handled our business, we’d be in that spot. But we didn’t because we didn't kick field goals. Next. The pragmatic & transactional move now is to give the Cougars props to break into the CFP. It’s not changing colors, it’s giving them encouragement to help raise the Big12 tide. Look Ute brosefs, I'm a copacetic Pig, I’m not a crab mentality guy who allows petty jealousy to drag & keep people down just so they don’t ascend higher than me; especially when their climb helps lift everybody up. But if you want to call me a bootlicking pig, a turncoat, a traitor, go for it. Pigs wallow in mud all the time. When Utah is back in the same position as the kittens are today, & we will be, we don’t want the same jobber treatment they’re getting right now. And if we do get the hose job, you'll look back at this moment and go; "Hmm, maybe Pig Boy was right after all, our enemies are the SEC & B1G." The P2 are the common denominator adversaries of all Big12 schools. We need at least TWO Big12 teams in the playoff to get real seats at the table (we would've had maybe three if our defense didn't play like they had skates on). And if BYU wins (or loses) & still gets in, it validates the strength of our conference, including the value of beating us. The CFP pretending a Utah win doesn’t mean anything is a slight on us, not just them. Conference business is Conference business. We're in this thing now. We learned that being a P5 for a decade & a half. Now roast the pig. Go Big12! Go Utes!

@gregwrubell I love this analysis. I watched the game and could see the D keeping us in it even with the miscues. It was a lot closer than the score would indicate.

CFP committee is using the nature of BYU's 29-7 loss at Texas Tech to exclude the Cougs from at-large candidacy--and let's remember, we're talking about the No. 4 team in the country, on its home field, with a nationally elite defense (1st rushing D, 3rd scoring D, 6th total D). A closer look inside the numbers from Nov. 8 shows many interesting things: BYU had negative yardage on two of 12 drives. Texas Tech had negative yardage on four of 13 drives. BYU scored one TD on 12 possessions. Tech scored two TDs on 13 possessions. BYU punted six times. Tech punted five times. BYU: 3.9 yards per play (season average 6.1) Tech: 4.9 yards per play (season average 6.5) BYU had more sacks (4-1). BYU had more possession time (30:35-29:25). BYU had 14 first downs. Tech had 17 first downs. Tech's points, first downs and yardage totals against BYU were the lowest in any of their 11 wins. Most significant stats: BYU was -3 in turnover margin (only BYU game this season without a takeaway); Sitake-era BYU is 0-10 at -3 or worse in turnover margin. BYU was -18 yards in average starting field position (second-worst number of the Sitake era), influenced by multiple early special teams miscues. In the first 20 minutes of the game, BYU had a 19-yard shanked punt, a muffed punt-return giveaway and a missed field goal. BYU's defense was very good, but needed to make takeaway plays that were there to be made. BYU's offense was challenged, and LJ Martin was not healthy. BYU made multiple pre-snap mistakes in front of a loud crowd. BYU's special teams struggled. BYU should expect improvement in all three areas on Saturday. The loss in Lubbock was bad, but there was enough good to give hope of a positive outcome in Arlington. Go Cougs!

@BYUbluThru I feel for you. We just observed our 19yr old son’s passing a year ago. He was too sick to go to any of last years games, but we caught a few on tv before he died. It doesn’t get easier but you’re not alone.

I went and visited my son’s grave last night. I told him about the Kalani saga, and couldn’t help but think of the BYU memories we’ll never have together. Do me a favor and hug your loved ones extra close today.

@stoolpresidente BYU could’ve schedule a tough out of conf game but didn’t. Instead the conference ran from good out of conference teams. That’s how conferences are- they game it for themselves. As does the SEC - maybe just maybe everyone should be an independent…..

The committee made it abundantly clear it’s not merit based. The playoffs is just the cool kids club and BYU isn’t perceived as a cool kid. ND and the SEC are the cool kids. The whole thing is a sham
