The war in Iran has now cost us $29 billion, NOT including the cost to repair bases damaged by Iran, according to the Pentagon. That cost could cover: - The entire border wall or - Free school lunches for every American child for about 3 years or - 2 years of ICE operations or - Fund the EPA for 25 years or - Entire VA mental health budget for 15 years or - Fully fund the coast guard for 4+ years or - Head Start for 10+ years or - Cancel all federal student loan interest for roughly two years or - Universal pre-K for 3-4 years We've spent more on 10 weeks of war with Iran than we spend on the entire federal judiciary — every court, every judge, every clerk — over roughly 15 years.

Dale Earnhardt Sr. would've turned 75 on Wednesday. So I drove to Kannapolis. Story about a trip that explained why Dale's mythology is not only still alive, but expanding. Starting with something simple: "He was one of us." In @theobserver: charlotteobserver.com/sports/nascar-…

@BoziTatarevic This is a great point! I live about 4-5 hours from each and have been to all 4 tracks in the past. Had to choose 1 this year and only made it to Darlington.

@PFTCommenter I (15 handicap) played the Monday after the 2011 Masters (Sunday pin placements). Played OK and shot 91. Only 3-putted once. The caddies are incredible.

@ESPNMcGee 20 pages?! (Also, shoutout to all the NC State kids who'd always pass me a beer at Rockingham in the early 2000s. Forever the real heroes of Tobacco Road.)

ESPN did a deep dive into the exam that helps determine the order of Krzyzewskiville and asked me, a Tobacco Road native to take it. I didn't test as well as Duke students (shocker) but it ain't too bad for an '80s kid who grew up an NC State fan! espn.com/mens-college-b…

Impossible to believe then. Impossible to believe now. 25 years have passed. After all that time, still impossible to define Dale Earnhardt — a common man who did uncommon things holding a steering wheel, and whose everyman appeal inspired us all. @SportsCenter essay. #3Forever

Thanks to my @NASCARONFOX friends for asking me to participate in "We've Lost Dale Earnhardt" airing tonight following the Duel at Daytona. It's a different look back on that awful day 25 years ago, asking what if's and examining Earnhardt's continuing impact.

@MattWeaverRA Good! Looking at the replay, he should be the winner. Second restart was fine.

NEW: @propublica investigates the Chicago raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours: - NONE of the arrested were criminally charged; - NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists." - ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

New: Agents rappelled from a Black Hawk helicopter in a massive show of force. Authorities said Tren de Aragua “terrorists” had taken over the building. But after the cameras were gone, federal prosecutors did not charge anyone. propub.li/47WaUim

I've never met @Jordan_Bianchi, so I don't know what makes him tick. I can't speak to that. What I CAN say is this. I don't know the long-time reporter Jordan references in this clip, but I can ASSURE you covering the sport back twenty and thirty years ago was NEVER, EVER boring. If a reporter couldn't find anything to write about, they simply weren't trying hard enough. If a championship happened to be clinched early, then by gosh you wrote about the excellence the team exhibited that season. You wrote about the champion crew chief's love for hunting. You wrote about the tire changer's training as a classical violinist. You wrote about the pro baseball players who followed that particular team. You wrote about what other teams in the garage could do to catch up. The championship format is completely irrelevant to having something interesting to write week-in and week-out ... full-season, Chase or playoff. I'll let this clip from Joe Whitlock, the greatest NASCAR journalist to ever walk into a media center, have the final say. There are eight or ten stories at every car. ... You'll never run out of stories to do as long as you're covering (NASCAR) races.
Zach@BiggelsTV

The most popular period in the sports history that saw consistent steady growth was actually terrible because journalists weren’t being spoon fed manufactured storylines to write about.
