We're honoured to receive a grant from @HeritageFundUK for our RNLI 1939-45: Stories of Courage project. It will enable us to find and share stories which might otherwise be lost as we approach the 80th anniversary of the end of the war 💙 #RNLI #NationalLottery #HeritageFund

@emmajolly It may be about right - one great-grandparent born there (not the Williams line, which is Wiltshire as far back as I can trace!). Also, border counties in more recent times

@Joe__Williams Yes, the Icelandic seems to be intriguing. How much Welsh do you think your father should have?

My AncestryDNA updates. Not sure what Iceland is doing there. My known Scottish ancestry appears to have been swallowed up by Ireland (comparing to my cousin matches on that branch). Northern Wales is a bit of mystery, too. Good to have the new "What changed?" section.🧬

@Joe__Williams The detailed communities are now called “Journeys” so you might find your detail still there on the journeys tab.

The 2024 @ancestrydna Ancestral Regions update has rolled out leaving some UK subscribers scratching their head, confused about new regions in their results - Channel Islands and Germanic Europe for example. Many, including myself, seeing Channel Islands come up is a complete surprise and seems unusual. Some suggesting maybe even a glitch. ⁉️

We are deeply concerned about the dispersal by @HachetteUK of publishing business archives and will write to the publishing sector about the importance of business archives and keeping collections together for future use amp.theguardian.com/books/article/…

@NFGmart Agree- I’m in touch with a relative whose great-grandparents were born 1802/3 (my 4x greats). This never fails to amaze me!

Having great grandparents born in the 1820s is very odd #WDYTYA

And within the last hour, ahead of #AncestryHour, it appears that one of my Facebook friends might well be distantly related to me through the same family as my 5x greats (TBC) 😮#FamilyHistory #Genealogy

Hoping #AncestryHour is still a thing! Getting back into genealogy this wk by adding a couple of 5x greats to my tree. DNA pointed the way. Also a week of collaboration with my 6th cousin, sharing our journeys into genealogy as much as uncovering our deep Rutland roots

The City Corporation-owned @LdnMetArchives will drop ‘Metropolitan’ from its name and become The London Archives from 5 August to attract new visitors and clarify the nature of its collections. LMA is the second largest archive service in the UK. tinyurl.com/2yhsb8f7

Turned over a page whilst cataloguing at work to find a photo of the old post office in Tintern, run by my GG grandfather’s sister & daughter 😯 Here’s GG grandfather, (born Tintern), a murky image which pleasingly reveals many similarities with my grandfather #AncestryHour

Happy 200th Birthday @RNLI ! Spending 4 of the last 6 years cataloguing just a tiny fraction of your incredible heritage assets has been a real highlight of my career. Whilst sad to be stepping away, I look forward to seeing the rest of the anniversary year unfold #RNLI200

@KJvFStaudt It’s one of my lines I’ve yet to pursue very far back. She was from the Camberwell/Peckham area of London, her father born Harwich in Essex.

Lovely “new” photo of an ancestor I’d have liked to have met: 3x great grand aunt Elizabeth Baker. Known for her undaunted spirit she was climbing mountains at 70, sawing wood at 90 and seeing off burglars at 92 (according to local newspaper) #AncestryHour #FamilyHistory
