@OldBullTV @HarryDCrane Is that a chart behind the paid subscription? Is it electoral college victory?

@InformedByIan Isn’t 3-1 leverage common across the industry as a whole?

It's a lot to read and a lot of detail, I get it. If you don't want to read it all now, bookmark it for later. If the big storm happens this year, come back and read about what will happen next and when all the news stories say "nobody knew this could happen". Not true. I knew!

But the problem is reinsurance is expensive. The other problem is your insurance customer probably isn't profitable over the long run. That means the cost of reinsurance can be more than your gross profit leaving you, the insurer, upside down.

@bradleyflowers Seems to me like the info is terrible until enough time passes that people can cite news/tv. Then there’s some good dialogue. Initial takes on here after events are horrible. All the good content is from random thoughts and writing from people like yourself, Jeff, Ian, etc. IMO

Wife and I were watching the news during the assassination attempt while simultaneously on X. Stuff would hit here a solid 45 minutes before the news picked it up. X is doing to TV what TV did to the radio and what radio did to the newspaper

This has been the most eventful past two weeks of American Politics. I haven’t watched the news in years but will admit we have tuned in for a bit each night. Twitter aka @X is a better way to consume news though in my opinion

@RufusPeabody @UnabatedSports @BetTheProcess @jeffma I think most people don’t have a big enough edge for portfolio management, but I have constant conversations about what and how much to hedge with casual bettors. I understand that hedging is port mgmt, but think it would be interesting, helpful and is a true “process”

What do you do Saturday morning when you stand to lose 500k on US Open outrights if Bryson wins? Sometimes hedging to reduce a loss is the right move, even if you didn’t overbet the initial wager. Here’s my discussion with @JTDPeabody:

@SethBurn @ProfessorShine @WNBA Also wouldn’t this pretty much take away the entertaining crunch time and end of game plays? Free throws have to be one of the most predictable and low variance plays in basketball right?

@InformedByIan @Dan2024X @AmbDennisRoss Unfortunately yes. And it’s louder because it draws an emotional reaction. But there are 5 people who want good for every 1 with hate.

Extraordinary Israeli operation to free Israeli hostages in a daytime operation. People who should never have been kidnapped have been freed. Thankfully, the agony of their families has finally been eased. Will Sinwar now decide to do the deal that is on the table? Press harder

The Sports Gods don't like replacing stadiums with tributes to crass commercialism. Thus, they cursed MN teams not just to not win titles, but to lose playoff games over and over again in the most heartbreaking ways possible. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan: "Tear Down That Mall!"

Whoa, I just made a major discovery. The Curse of the Mall of America. Did you know the MoA was built on the site of the Vikings and Twins old stadium? And did you know no MN sports team has made a league final since 1991? And guess when MoA opened? 1992! 🤯🤯🤯

Look, this is easy. Minnesota fans always lose in the most painful way. So there are two options: - take 3-1 lead and lose in 7 - fall behind 3-1, win next two, have lead in G7 4th quarter, but still lose. If you're from MN (I'm not, but know plenty), you know I'm right.

@KrisAbdelmessih @macrocephalopod What if the candidate has a hobby (eg poker) on the list that they admit to not being great at, but they express passion and are really good at explaining their learning process

You answered the next question -- what's the threshold of acceptable competence which will vary by firm/interviewer (There's also a meta component...like if you interview at SIG for QR and have poker on the CV and they say, ya know Bill Chen is gonna swing by you're f'd. But the point is if the candidate did their homework on the firm they are talking to they should know that could happen. So conditionally if they put it on their CV the expectation is that they are really great and so the candidate creates a ton of downside with very little chance to impress)

Question for people who hire/interview candidates.... Is my assumption correct that you shouldn't put anything on your CV's hobbies that seems like its to curry favor but you aren't serious about? Like playing poker with your buds.
