Maybe it's just because I'm becoming an old man, but I've become increasingly obsessed with this awesome plant near my house. Apparently it’s an agave and they do this in their final stage of life. This stalk that shoots up is called Quiote and whats wild is it grows several inches every day, kinda like a bamboo. This is well over 10 feet tall. And then it starts to flower as you can see here. What I'm confused about is this: this will happen when the agave reaches seven to thirty plus years of its life, and then after this final stage, it dies. But I'm almost certain each year this exact thing happens in this exact spot. Does anyone know how that's possible? I don't know if it's a new one, but if it is, then it shouldn't be doing this for several years right? Sadly I’ll soon drive by it and it will be broken in half 😢

Hey @CoinPoker_OFF @padspoker @bencb789 it's pretty disappointing to see the rake cap effectively DOUBLED at low/mid stakes cash games. Rake free promotion for March is nice, but it's short sighted if the rake effectively doubles at the end of it. New rake at 50NL is 5% with 8bb cap, 100NL is 5% 5bb cap, previously was 50NL 4bb cap and 100NL 2.5bb cap.

@tombos21 Agree the that framework in incomplete, but when you make your opponent fold out trash some other hands just bluffs later instead and if you leave your opponent with a lot of trash by the river they will have to give up a lot.

Most people believe you bet in poker to make worse hands call or deny equity. But I think this framework is incomplete. Broadly speaking, there are sources of EV that have less to do with hand strength and more to do with control. For example, you bet with a medium hand to fold out trash that would have bluffed you off the hand later.

@tombos21 That is why IP only has b25 and b75 vs BB in Octopi. (Slightly adjusted when very short/deep)

It’s an open secret that braindead flop simplifications barely cost EV. Stuff like range c-betting every flop IP only gives up ~1% of EV against the best counterstrategy, (I made a video on this a while back). This has me wondering about the concept of unsafe solving: the idea that solutions to subgames can be suboptimal because players could change their earlier actions. In practice, we solve preflop and postflop separately, so the postflop starting ranges are fixed. But if Villain *knows* you’re rangebetting, can they adjust preflop to punish that simplification? Maybe rangebetting is more exploitable than my table suggests?
