They later die on a hospital ward of their pneumonia or their congestive heart failure or their sepsis and everybody assumes it was "their time". If not for the days spent in the hallway, they would have been around for a grandchild's birthday or their wedding anniversary.

But here's the other thing Premier, for every very public and tragic death of a young person, there are literally hundreds of unheralded deaths of the elderly as a result of inadequate care in the hallways.

With no stretchers in the ER with which to assess patients with the privacy and dignity they deserve they end up in a crowded waiting room, patiently waiting their turn, as only Canadians do.

But let me save you both time and money. Crowding kills and crowding is a reflection of hospitals at over-capacity with resultant boarding of admitted patients in the ER.

Appropriate to express condolences, this was a young man with a family and regardless of the ultimate cause of death the wait for care was unacceptable and absolutely destroys the confidence of the entire populace in Alberta in the integrity of their health care system.

Ok. Let’s address the elephant in the room. It’s fairly common for any Bill to pass first reading. Even with a UCP majority in the Legislature, all NDP bills have passed first readings Now is the time to let all MLA’s know you’re watching their 2nd vote very, very closely. /1

Write your MLA’s and let them know that their second vote will inform just how aggressively you work to see them recalled or unelected. Put the fear of god into them. There’s procedure to hide behind on a first vote. Make sure there is only accountability after the next.

I’m done being polite about this. My kid is transgender. MY CHILD. A real human being with a heart, a future, and a right to exist safely in this province. And Alberta just invoked the notwithstanding clause AGAIN — this time to force through laws that directly harm kids like mine. They had to override the Charter because they KNOW this legislation violates basic rights. They did it anyway. Do you know what it feels like to watch your government deliberately target your child? To tell them they don’t deserve equality, or safety, or the same opportunities as other kids? To literally legislate against their existence? I’m angry. I’m terrified. And I’m not staying silent. If you think this doesn’t affect you — it will. When a government learns it can override rights without consequence, it never stops at one group. This is cruelty. This is discrimination.
