@JackPittBrooke After the performances of Colwill against Liverpool and City, while being left footed, I would take him over Stones. Also Watkins over Welbeck.

@DougieCritchley I mean Chelsea thought highly enough to let Poch go and give him the job and after one year on the Champ. Good talent spotting. I I think part of the reason he left is because he was looking to replace Pep, can't blame him.

It's a pretty damning indictment on the quality of decision-making at Chelsea... That Enzo Maresca is viewed as the perfect long-term successor to Pep Guardiola, the most successful manager of his era, and one of the greatest in history.

@danielstorey85 I thought we had little chance, but Carrick staying, Slot seemingly staying, Maresca in if Pep goes, Arteta going nowhere like Flick, Kompany and Enrique. So unless he was tempted by Italy, Chelsea probably the best option if he wants to manage now. Why we have moved quickly.

Don't expect Chelsea fans to care, but find it quite depressing that a club can do almost everything wrong - miss Europe, churn through managers, waste vast swathes of money on players on long contracts - and still attract a high-class head coach who would have his pick of jobs.

@DougieCritchley Just feels like the only option if he wants to manage in the PL now. Utd sticking with Carrick, Liverpool seemingly sticking with Slot and Maresca next in line should Pep leave. I imagine it's why Chelsea moved quickly in case things change.

Fair play Chelsea, Xabi Alonso is an amazing hire and one I didn’t think was possible given their recent troubles. It’s a fascinating decision from Alonso… one that effectively rules him out of the Liverpool job for the foreseeable future. Liverpool’s decision to not go for him when he’s available… huge call. Can’t wait to see him in the Premier League next year!

@MiguelDelaney Imo it was penalty. But probably using VAR correctly. Not clear and obvious.

Chelsea’s winless Wembley run continues 😩 A narrow defeat City means the season ends without silverware… and potentially without European football next season… @MattDaviesAdams and @liam_twomey will be alongside Simon on Monday’s pod. What’s your assessment? #CFC
Simon Johnson@SJohnsonSport

That's it, #CFC lose 1-0. They lost to a goal of real quality and put in a battling performance at least. But there was not enough quality in the final third. Their record of losing domestic cup finals in succession extends to seven. #FACupFinal

@DougieCritchley I think that’s the point though Dougie. It’s still down to how a ref views a particular incident so hasn’t improved anything. Goal line technology is cut and dry while even if you don’t like the toe offside decisions, it is consistently applied and just a fact for all teams.

Whilst I empathise with people frustrated with a lack of consistency... It's almost impossible to ever truly find it. All these decisions are to a greater or lesser extent subjective... a scroll through social media after every single decision, and there will be people that disagree. Sometimes it's 50/50 in the court of public opinion, sometimes it's 90/10, but there will always be people that disagree. Even the term clear and obvious... that's entirely subjective. One person's clear and obvious, isn't someone else's. That's why, whilst I acknowledge it's flaws, I am still pro-VAR. I'd like the decision makers to have as many possible opportunities to get these decisions right (and even then people will disagree) People also have very rose tinted glasses about life pre-VAR, there was just as much discussion about decisions, and there were FAR MORE howlers. Speed it up, improve communication in stadium, but I personally wouldn't scrap it.

@DougieCritchley If he wants the PL, then Chelsea might be the only option if Carrick gets the Utd job, Slot stays and Maresca replaces Pep. Equally this gives him a full preseason and can't imagine he wants to parachute in during the campaign. Guess it depends how keen he is to return now.

Xabi Alonso rejected Gladbach to continue to develop at Real Sociedad B... Xabi Alonso rejected Liverpool on the back of his unbeaten League and Cup double to continue to develop at Leverkusen... I'm staggered that people think he'd be keen to become the 7th permanent manager of Clearlake's 4 year reign at Chelsea, 6 months on from being (I would argue unfairly) sacked by Real Madrid. I've been wrong many times before, I could be wrong on this... But I'd be amazed if Xabi Alonso took the Chelsea job. If the right offer doesn't appear this summer, just wait. What's the rush?! He's 44, coming off the first "failure" of his career.

Six successive PL defeats 😳 Chelsea beaten 3-1 by Forest (yes, they really did score a goal) to make hopes of European football seem even more fanciful. @MattDaviesAdams, @liam_twomey & @SJohnsonSport are summing up the latest low in #CFC's season tomorrow. Come on then 💬👇

Delap booked for arguing with the referee. Fair to say he must be one of, if not, the worst PL signing this season. #bbcfootball

A think a defeat to relegation threatened Nottingham Forest's 2nd string... Would be the absolute low point of the Clearlake Capital era.

The answer turned out to be 106 days of a 6 year contract... I've said it multiple times, but I don't think the best managers in the world consider Chelsea under their current ownership. Iraola is the best option for me.
Dougie Critchley@DougieCritchley

Liam Rosenior is the 4th permanent manager Clearlake have appointed at Chelsea. The previous 3 were handed contracts worth a combined 12 years, or 144 months. They only lasted a combined 2 years and 10 months or 34 months. How long do we think Rosenior will last under this ownership?
