@SamOlbur Not just 1 game. No matter which stars they inevitably lose I always expect them to manage their roster better than Jed. Instead of their manager what we should've been doing is poaching their best FO and analytics people

@davep_life @J5_Sports1 His stock was higher as a transfer, but it's not like he was very productive at Cal. When IU landed him there were a lot of Cal fans, and others that didn't understand his ranking based on his overall tape. Lots of projection involved with taking a leap of faith on him.

@SamOlbur All of these creeps that nobody heard of like Sproat/Kyle Harrison doing a heck of a job for them. They've lost Woodruff, Corbin, Burnes, Freddy Peralta, Hader, Devin Williams and they never miss a beat. All without a payroll. Hire their FO and analytics people not their manager

@SamOlbur Seiya has been awful in RISP spots this year, but his history with bases loaded/RISP is pretty good. Happ I don't like at 4 bc he's more of a walks guy. You want someone with better bat to ball skills in that spot, but unfortunately there isn't a real cleanup hitter on this team.

@SamOlbur Or look at Kyle Harrison another former top prospect. They just lose star after star every offseason, and don't miss a beat. Now they have arguably the top farm system. We may have hired their manager, but it's the FO/analytics side of things where they run laps around our org.

@MarkOldacres I honestly think he's a sure thing as a pure pass catcher. I'm not saying he'll go for 1200 yards, but ability isn't the issue like with other 1st rd busts. My questions are what's his upside, can he be a good perimeter blocker, and can he stay healthy as a smaller player?

Not a criticism, but most of the pessimism on Golden comes from fantasy people, based on history of players with similar rookie stat lines. It makes sense for fantasy, especially in Green Bay’s “share the love” offense, but for his prospects as an actual player it lacks context.
Nico@elitetakes_

I hate the dialogue around Matthew Golden People judge him strictly off of his rookie statline, but he was productive when targeted & simply didn’t get many opportunities Not a legitimately bad rook like Quentin Johnston or Xavier Legette was, and this Packers offseason suggests they know that. The truth about him is nuanced

@stmcgee It stinks he's a talented kid but Cig is gonna stick to his valuations, especially when it comes to HS recruits that likely won't help you right away. I think Monshun Sales is one of the only HS talents that are exceptional enough where Cig will make an unusually aggressive bid.

@georgelettice69 He's our highest ranked and highest upside HS recruit. It's a loss but we'll be fine either way because we have this coaching staff

@elitetakes_ I think he's a stud as a pure pass catcher and separator. My bigger questions are more as a perimeter blocker and just will he stay healthy if he's targeted a lot as a smaller framed player? But I don't doubt the ability at all you said it perfectly that he didn't play poorly.

@Alex_Kozora It's not even a correct or not situation he easily gives them the best chance to win with what they have. I get why some fans want to rebuild, but there's a lot of QBs being paid $40-55 million per year to lead teams that are only playoff contenders and not legit SB contenders.

I think the #Steelers wanted Aaron Rodgers back because they think (correct or not) he gives them the best option to win right now. I think Rodgers wanted to return because he enjoyed his time with Pittsburgh last year, had fun again, and knows Mike McCarthy's system.

@TommyJaggi You want stats the steelers D regressed from being a top 10 unit into being ranked 26th in total defense. No WR2. A less effective rushing attack. Rodgers ability/experience to run the offense and win games in key 4th quarter moments was a big reason they were 10-6 in his starts.

"Rodgers had 24 TDs and 7 INT last year" Russell Wilson had 26 TDs and 8 INT in 2023... and the Broncos ate a record $85M in dead money to get rid of him the next offseason. We HAVE to stop using raw stats to argue for QBs. The film tells a completely different story. #Steelers

@JBaileyNFL He's held to a higher standard because of who he is, and rubs people the wrong way for not much reason. What's funny is how many QBs today who got huge contracts aren't true SB contenders, and yet get paid like one.Meanwhile we don't want Rodgers because he only won the AFC North

I mean every QB Metric had him as a bottom 5 QB in the NFL. He led the NFL in TTT. Led the NFL in passes 30 air yards or less. Led the NFL in passes 10 yards or less. The criticism is warranted. He may improve with a much better coaching staff and team, but to act like the criticism of him is random is a bit asinine.

@tuckerkraftfan @billbarnwell Agreed I'm not even saying it to defend Rodgers or anyone too. In this day with so many publicly available advanced metrics and other traditional stats available QBR is easily amongst the worst. It's a stat that only came into play in recent yrs w/out a ton of proof of its value.

@SamOlbur Jed loves these aging ex Astros with declining velo. What's funny is every offseason we're all scratching our heads at his big reliever additions, while smart teams like Atlanta go out and land proven production guys that fans actually like such as Rasiel Iglesias or Suarez.

@Peter_Bukowski I think a lot of it simply comes down to people holding him to the standard of former GB QBs like Rodgers. That's an impossible standard. He's in that next tier behind Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Lamar and Stafford. Frankly I think there's little gap overall between the QBs 6-13 or so

No, but I will say I think Brock Purdy is close. I’ve come around to think they’re the two most underrated QBs in the NFL. Purdy is good.
David Davis 🧀🧀@_dough21

@Peter_Bukowski Has there ever been a QB that has done what Love has done in his first 3 seasons as starter, that was met with as much vitriol and disrespect as the outside media? I'm not so sure. Absolutely ridiculous.

@Blitz_Burgh I'll put it this way. I went through all 22 tape against Houston, and the offense got smothered at every level. Whether that's scheme, protection, but what stood out is the WRs got totally dominated. I think less Thielen, MVS, Austin, Jonnu, and more Pittman would've helped.

Aaron Rodgers was not good against elite defenses last year. Any team that has a pass rush, he folds. He's too old. #Steelers #NFL
