Adults forced a young girl named “Cara” to remove her mask for their comfort.
Cara’s mother had cancer and was immune compromised.
Cara caught covid, gave it to her mom and her mom died.
Imagine doing that to a child because you don’t want to see a mask?
It’s appalling.

A kid wearing a mask is not harming anyone. It doesn’t disrupt others. It doesn’t endanger anyone. It’s a personal protective choice. So forcing a kid to remove it is usually about adult comfort, not the kid’s safety. Why this feels unfair Because it is unfair.

La voy a trasladar a un asilo estatal, de esos que huelen a olvido y limpieza barata. Mi hermana puso el grito en el cielo, me llamó 'hijo desalmado' y dice que ella es la mujer que me dio la vida.
Lo que no dice es que ella no pone un centavo porque 'no tiene', pero quiere que yo sacrifique el fondo universitario de mis hijos para mantener un cuerpo que ya no tiene alma.
Mi madre siempre dijo que no quería ser una carga. Si ella pudiera verme, me daría la razón. No voy a hipotecar el futuro de los que están vivos por el orgullo de una mujer que ya se fue hace años, aunque su corazón siga latiendo.
¿Soy un monstruo por elegir a mis hijos sobre mi madre moribunda, o soy el único valiente que acepta que hay batallas que ya se perdieron?
Prefiero que mis hijos me recuerden por darles una carrera, que por haber gastado su herencia en prolongar la agonía de una extraña. Los leo, sé que la moral les sobra cuando el dinero no es suyo.

I had an experience today that I haven't been able to shake. I was waiting in line at Walgreens behind an elderly woman who was trying to decide between different sized bags of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (what she could afford). She was rummaging around her bag looking for coupons or credits. She said her nephew was coming to visit from Virginia, and they didn't have these there, and he loved them. I asked her if I could please pay, she accepted and slowly starting walking out with the help of the Walgreens cart for support.
After I paid, I asked her if I could help her to her car, and she shared that her nephew was coming up to see her before he got deployed to the Middle East. He is in the navy. She wanted to give him his favorite treat before he left. She is of course worried.
This broke my heart. All of it. The inequity. Who we send off to wars. And who, in this case, is sending them.
We have a 5x draft dodger making these decisions. He is unbridled, undisciplined and a know it all.Today the news is likely that he will use ground troops - for what? What are they giving their lives for? This woman's nephew, and so many sons and daughters might never come home.
Please remember the human side of what is happening. I can't shake this interaction.
