The Bengals Dalton Risner just ran a mile in under 8 minutes. At 6’5”, 315 lbs. That’s not normal. That’s the kind of stat you drop when you want people to say “freak athlete” and move on. And sure, it’s impressive. Most guys that size are built for short bursts, not distance. Meanwhile he’s out here pacing like he’s training for a 10K, which I’m sure will come in handy the next time the pocket politely asks the defensive line to wait while he finishes his laps. Because here’s the problem—NFL pass rush isn’t cardio. It’s violence in a phone booth. You don’t get a mile. You get about 2.5 seconds and a +300-pound human trying to drive you backwards like you’re on skates. So yeah, incredible conditioning. Truly. But when Cam Heyward is lined up across from him, nobody’s asking about his mile time. They’re asking if he can hold his ground for one snap without getting folded.

Keylan Rutledge is just the third Georgia Tech offensive lineman to be drafted in the first round in school history. Kent Hill was the last one in 1979 by the Rams. Hill had a great NFL career. Both were the 26th pick. Rutledge is headed to the Texans.

But you aren't full of yourself like he is, you're humble and appreciative. Most athletes are good about signing, the superstars are not. But even in your day the guys would always sign in Fredonia. You make time for the fans who make time for you. Different world now, all about money.

Cool or not cool?
