It all started by me taking a seat, a seat I did not think I could win. It allowed me to have Ireland’s people with disabilities heard and seen in our Oireachtas, aiming to address the growing poverty and routine exclusion of 643,000 people, their families and carers.

@DonnchaLaw @JlodJohn @RTESunMisc Donncha, I only heard Conor speak once, at the “Who is Thy Neighbour” conference in Dublin, many years ago. He placed the Christian values beside those of Human Rights, refreshing, memorable and above all helpful to me in my life. I will remember Conor.

@DisabilityFed @OBrienPress Wonderful to see this Memoir launched. I never came across an advocate who led the need for change through his leadership actions. Martin’s likes are needed more than ever.

@longsiobhan A year whee we lost four great Irish musicians and singers, it began with the Kerry man and ended with the Tipperary man, with Sinead and Christy between them. The loss of their loved ones must trump our loss.

People with disabilities say a lack of access to train stations is becoming a crisis, forcing them to regularly pay for private transport instead. Campaigners also say a rise in prices for basic items is not being matched in disability payments | More: bit.ly/3QXhw60

The EDF board meeting that I attended this week was consumed by the humanitarian crisis for people with disabilities in Ukraine. People with disabilities are leaving everything behind, from medication to mobility aids to assistive technology. So many others are unable to get out.
European Disability Forum@MyEDF

@MyEDF President @IVardakastanis regarding the protection and safety of persons with disabilities in Ukraine: "the situation in Ukraine is direct and brutal violation of international humanitarian law, of international human rights law of article 11 of the CRPD"

@desmond_kenny Somehow the death of Hubert is just one too many. A beautiful and thoughtful man. Hubert was always there when things were difficult protesting and supporting others in his signature way. May he rest in peace.

The sad passing of few of our remaining giants of CIL movement. A gentle soul whose strengths had many weaves including a warm and creative talent for song and music. Farewell dear giant from those of us who are the poorer for your passing.@ILMIreland@DisabilityFed.

I have seen Ronnie since the ‘90’s, stand beside and with people from the Traveller and Roma traditions. May she rest in peace and that those who loved her will eventually find peace and strength from her good life. (2/2)
