A healthy population is the backbone of a thriving and productive county, and I remain committed to ensuring that every resident of Machakos has access to quality, affordable, and timely healthcare services. I have inspected key medical equipment that is strengthening service delivery in our health facilities, including the 128-slice CT scanner, digital X-ray machines, ultrasound systems, ICU ventilators, and other critical diagnostic and theatre equipment. These modern technologies are significantly improving our capacity for early detection, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment. I am pleased that with these investments, we are steadily reducing the need for referrals outside the county and ensuring that our people access specialized care closer to home.

Education is the foundation upon which we build a brighter and more inclusive future for our children. Today, I will launch the Machakos County Bursary Programme at Kithunguini Secondary School in Lower Kaewa Ward, Kathiani Subcounty, starting at 9:00 a.m. This initiative aims to support needy students across Machakos County, ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial constraints.

Education is the foundation upon which we build a brighter and more prosperous future. That is why my administration has made deliberate and impactful investments in the Department of Education. We have built over 250 modern classrooms, employed qualified ECDE teachers, and ensured our young learners receive nutritious meals daily, with milk served twice a week. We have also provided adequate learning materials to support a conducive learning environment. Our efforts are bearing fruit, with enrolment rising to over 47,000 learners across the county. We have further strengthened early childhood development through the expansion of daycare services, giving our children a strong and nurturing start. In addition, over the last three years, we have disbursed more than Ksh 360 million in bursaries, supporting over 100,000 needy students across Machakos County to access and continue their education.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) remain the backbone of our local economy, driving innovation, creating jobs, and uplifting livelihoods across Machakos County. Hosted the Machakos County Jua Kali traders, an association we have consistently supported since I took over as governor. Through targeted empowerment and sponsorships to various trade expos within the East African Community, our traders have continued to excel, emerging among the best and showcasing the strength of local talent and enterprise. These efforts have expanded market opportunities, increased incomes for our traders, enhanced skills and product quality, and positioned Machakos as a hub of innovation and trade in the region. As an administration, we will continue to provide a conducive working environment for all traders, ensuring our Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni vision becomes a reality for every household.

Road infrastructure is central to our efforts to strengthen connectivity and improve mobility for our people across Machakos County, and I am encouraged by the steady progress of the Katangi – Kinyaata – Kikesa – Kithimani Road upgrade to bitumen standards. Phase 1 from Katangi to Malava is now complete. This phase involved the installation of road bumps, road markings, signage, kerbs and drainage channels to enhance safety for motorists, pedestrians and users of Non-Motorised Transport along the road. Despite the recent rains, the contractor is back on site and has already completed road opening and site clearance on approximately 7 kilometres, where bitumen will be laid in the coming months. Other sections of the road have also been improved to motorable standards as we steadily extend tarmac connectivity across Yatta Sub-County, easing the movement of people and goods, and supporting local economic activities.

Hosted the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Kenya, H.E. Maroš Mitrik, who together with his team, paid a courtesy call to my office. Our discussions focused on possible areas of partnership and collaboration, including investment in the Machakos Youth Service, our Vocational Training Centers, and the County Aggregation and Industrial Park. The delegation noted with satisfaction the ongoing programmes we are undertaking in the departments of education and climate change, while also lauding Machakos County as a growing hub for industrial and manufacturing activities, particularly in the real estate sector.

A total of 74.9 tons of certified seeds have been distributed to 37,450 farmers across Machakos County. These seeds, enough to be planted on 7,493 acres, are high-yielding, pest-resistant, and climate-smart, and are expected to produce over 93,000 bags of grain, giving a major boost to food security. I urge farmers to take advantage of the ongoing rains: plant on time, use the certified seeds, plant trees, grow grass for their animals, and dig terraces to conserve water, ensuring a successful and sustainable harvest this season.
