Labour's Steve Reed is pushing a new non-statutory definition of "anti-Muslim hostility" as part of their social cohesion plan. He claims on BBC it "in no way" restricts free speech, lets people criticise Islam, migration or anything else, and just guides public bodies on spotting prejudice against Muslims amid rising hate crimes. Reality check: the whole purpose is to chill and shut down debate. Call out grooming gangs, no-go zones, two-tier policing, mass migration impacts, or Islamist influence? Flagged as "hostility" toward Muslims as a group. Existing laws already cover real hate crimes and abuse. This isn't protection; it's a tool for police, councils, schools and employers to monitor and punish speech that questions the official narrative on Islam. They dodged "Islamophobia" to avoid free-speech backlash, but the effect is the same: special shield for one religion while Christianity gets ridiculed freely with no tsar or definition. They're even creating an "anti-Muslim hostility tsar" to enforce it. Reed can spin it all he wants. This is a backdoor way to control conversation and protect Islam from debate and scrutiny. Free speech for some, silence for the rest.
