@ArielleSelya @KingsNRG Worst 'Stop Smoking Advisor' ever.
I hope it's fictional, but I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't.

Incredible closing keynote by Prof Debbie Robson on treating people who smoke with respect, understanding their challenges, and seeing them as "more than a smoker who can't quit" @KingsNRG #SRNTE2025

@CommieBirder That's brilliant, well done. I've been doing a bit of running myself, though my times are nothing like as good as yours - I'm chuffed if I get a sub 30 min 5k!

A big thank you to @sarahledden, @johnrobinsKCL, and Alex Rossiter from @samaritans for fantastic presentations about #alcohol and #suicide and #RCPsychIC. Your talks and the discussion afterwards was food for thought.

Honored to have been able to speak about my work at @rcpsych Internation Congress with @sarahledden @samaritans and @KalkNicola . #RCPsychIC #RCPsychIC22. Thank you for inviting me, and for the stimulating discussion from all who attended.

Next up we have @JohnRobinsKCL discussing how the current approach to suicide prevention is 'one size fits all'. One factor is use of nebulous terms such as 'alcohol abuse'. what types of alcohol abuse exist? He looked at (anonymous) data from SLaM's 'place of safety'. #rcpsychic

This sample gave a sample of 650 people. @JohnRobinsKCL used Latest Class Analysis (LCA) to examine alcohol-using behaviour. 5 factors were examined to determine alcohol dependence. LCA was used to determine which classes end up in crisis care - or die. #rcpsychic

LCA determined a three-class system best fit the data - low-risk drinkers, binge drinkers, and dependent drinkers. We can see major differences in drinking profiles between the classes. #rcpsychic

The binge drinkers class actually has LOWER risk of death or recontact with emergency crisis care than the reference (low-risk) class - whereas the dependent drinkers class has more than DOUBLE the risk. This should inform crisis care policies, says @JohnRobinsKCL at #RCPsychic
