🚨I have disappointing news for everyone in South Basildon and East Thurrock. For the second year running, the old parties have come together to cancel local elections. That would be troubling under any circumstances, but in our area the impact is unprecedented. Residents here are losing all three local elections: • Basildon Borough Council • Thurrock Council • Essex County Council Two of these have now been cancelled two years in a row. This is happening despite polling showing a clear likelihood that Reform would win decisively if elections were allowed to go ahead. Whatever your politics, that should concern anyone who believes in democracy. When elections are cancelled because the result looks inconvenient, trust in the system is damaged. I know people will feel frustrated, and rightly so! My advice is simple: keep your patience, and keep your memory. When the opportunity to vote is finally restored, make it count! ➡️➡️➡️ In the meantime, Reform’s legal challenge is progressing at pace. There is a real prospect that the High Court will look closely at whether this decision is justified or whether it amounts to political convenience dressed up as administrative reform. Democracy delayed is democracy denied. ➡️Onwards and upwards!
