@growing_daniel Closed loop glycol cooling systems are an option, but they’re more power intensive than evaporative cooling systems. So data centers either use closed loop systems where power is plentiful but water scarce, or evaporative cooling systems where the opposite is true.

Vizio lost $6.7 million selling TVs in its final quarter as a public company. Its ads and data division made $115.8 million in the same three months. That's the answer to why a 4k TV costs $300 now. The screen is a loss leader for the tracking software inside it. The mechanism is called automatic content recognition. Your TV samples the pixels on screen, matches them against a database of everything airing anywhere, and builds a second-by-second log of what you watch. The FTC found Vizio's system pulling up to 100 billion data points a day from 11 million TVs, then selling the logs to brokers who matched them to your IP address, your phone, and your purchase history. The fine for doing all of that without asking was $2.2 million in 2017. By 2024, Vizio's ad division earned that back roughly every two days. Every manufacturer runs the same playbook now. Roku sells hardware below cost. Samsung and LG built their own ad networks. The cheaper the TV, the more living rooms the software reaches, so pricing pressure runs downward on purpose. The world's largest retailer wanted to pair what you watch at 9pm with what you buy at 9am. This is also why a "dumb" commercial display with no apps costs more than the smart version of the same panel. The dumb one has to earn its whole profit on the shelf. This meme took me back. Having grown up evangelical (in a creationist homeschool community, reading the Bible cover to cover every year) I think I can offer some insight here: The MAGA mindset draws heavily on decades of evangelical culture. The worldview I grew up with was apocalyptic to its core. For them, the world is always about to end. Chaos and collapse aren't threats to that belief, they're confirmation of it. Enter Trump. This mindset also trains people to treat earthly life as a waiting room. They're "spiritually saving up" for the next world, which (intentionally or not) deprioritizes fixing this one. The result is a posture that elevates chaos instead of resisting it, retreats into isolation when things get hard, and sometimes even welcomes what damages society... because it reads as prophecy fulfilled rather than a problem we need to solve. That same conspiracist wiring makes them susceptible to nearly identical prophetic claims from MAGA (see QAnon: Trump will emerge on some given day with hidden truth and unstoppable power to destroy the deep state... it almost mirrors Revelation 1:1). Christianity itself isn't unhealthy, but I've seen firsthand how the politically-infused evangelical interpretation of it absolutely can be.
