I was recently talking to a mentor about everything that happened this past year. He told me he has seen this time and time again with people he’s hired and mentored. If you make money too quickly, before you become the person who can handle it, you will lose it all. In many cases, he saw people full of talent and potential lose everything and never find themselves again. They were destroyed for the rest of their lives. That was very close to being me. My name was ruined. My business was ruined. I was stuck in such a dark place because everyone I knew, everyone I loved, and everything I tied my identity to was gone—and my identity went with it. I thought there was no purpose for me. I thought I was beyond saving. It got to a point where I thought maybe my life wasn’t worth anything at all. I see so many people online today making money their entire identity, and it makes me worry for them because I know exactly what it did to me. I see it happen constantly, especially in the creator economy, with creators making money they’ve never seen before and starting to live for the dollar instead of living for their purpose—putting themselves over God. If you’re someone who is just starting to make some real money, take this as a warning. If you’re somebody who has already made it and lost it all, take this as a sign. You can lose it all, and you can come back from it. But the version of you who had it and lost it has to die before that comeback can happen.

No amount of mentors of motivational videos on YouTube will prepare you for the harsh realities of being a founder. They tell you it’s hard, they tell you the hours are long and the lows are low. But it doesn’t internalize. You don’t really get it until you’ve done it. Until you’ve gone through it yourself. I’ve missed majority of the big moments in the first two years of my daughter’s life because I’ve been building 24:7. I’ve never been more disconnected from family. I’d much rather be spending time with them but I also know that these sacrifices will lay the foundation for the unlimited hours we will have together in the future. Hopefully I find balance at some point but until then. Let’s ball

I find it fascinating how much potential the most insecure people hold. I've seen it multiple times when I ran my creator agency: the people who are the most insecure about their ability are the ones that usually hold the most level of genius. A video idea or a script they made they wrote off as bad or not worth testing. Someone else heard and thought it was the best thing they heard that month, ran it and got results. An idea for a business or a marketing strategy they write off as normal or basic but someone else hears as a thing that could change everything for them. There are so many people that have potential to do great things but at some point in their life they were surrounded by someone or multiple people that built it into them that their ideas and their input were worth nothing. Subconsciously they assume that, when in reality you're way smarter and way more gifted than you've ever realized All you need to do is just take a chance on yourself.
