I resigned from OpenAI. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together. This wasn’t an easy call. AI has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I’m proud of what we built together.

It was a challenging year for research funding. The number of NIH investigators awarded an RO1 dropped from 7720 in 2024 to 5885 in 2025. Despite the headwinds the @uoflmedschool increased NIH funding from $54M to $63M and rose 4 places in the BRIMR.org rankings.

Both chambers of Congress have now passed the FY26 minibus with NIH provisions. The President will sign.
(1) $48.7 billion for NIH
(2) Full IDC recovery
(3) No more multi-year funding
(4) No NIH reorganization, maintaining the current IC structure.
