Healthcare has some challenges. What’s routine to us can be someone’s worst day. It’s good to remember that. Thanks @VDOOZER, @JohnCMcGinley @zachbraff and everyone else for making a show that was honest and still resonates.

@Trialawdan @PHLAirport I’m saying that their website is providing an inaccurate picture of the situation. There’s been stories of delays, but also plenty of tweets going “it actually wasn’t that bad when I went though today”. So it would be useful for @phlairport to provide GOOD data.

@JonEMTP @PHLAirport Jon, hoping this is parody. Obviously you have no tv, radio or home internet. Possibly not even a phone. Checks Notes : YES ITS BEEN COMMUNICATED . Every minute of every day.

Hey @PHLAirport - your app is showing “2” minutes for TSA Precheck security this AM. Actual wait was closer to 20. It’s not horrible, but your system isn’t able to calculate wait times because it’s not used to the lines being so long. You need to communicate this better.

@ChampChaz02 @ReloadSports They used fancy words - but essentially said something like “we are prioritizing earnings based on room rates, rather than focusing on maximizing occupancy”. They also said that this means they can “adjust” dining outlet hours as needed.

People arguing with me on drink prices in Vegas. All I have to say is remember when Wynn lowered their prices in the bars and day club a few years back? It led to like 4 or 5 viral videos of mass brawls on their property in a week. I rest my case and its why I am happy to pay $18 for a Bud and sip it in PEACE

1) Im a roofer, in the middle of my Spring season 🏡 with 2 broken feet. I’m in excruciating pain, but because I’m a man (and a roofer), I never bitch about it. I asked my Podiatrist for 3 days of pain meds, and he said “with injuries like that I’m shocked you never asked me”

We need an explanation from ODU leadership how a convicted Islamic terrorist got admitted as a student there. Did ODU know of his criminal history involving ISIS? If not, how did they miss it? Was it ignorance, or “restorative justice” nonsense?

@James_Tierney It’s one of the cheaper options for a hybrid, and definitely cheaper than most SUV/crossover options. If space/functionality is something you need, it might be worth a look.

@James_Tierney I do a stupid amount of highway driving (1700 miles/month) I’ve been happy with my hybrid Ford Maverick. 33 MPG in 2 1/2 years. Cabin space is similar to a Ford escape, back seat is OK for two adults for short trips, with a cover over the short bed, you have an excellent “trunk”.

@VegasUncomped @jfsaenz22 They really HAVE focused on it over the last ~10-15 years. Many of the intersections now have elevated walkways. In fact the giant crosswalk pictured is the only surface crossing between Harrah’s and Luxor. It’s close to a mile of Las Vegas Blvd.

@jfsaenz22 It'd be great to focus on those areas, maybe the whole strip doesn't close, maybe the focus is on fixing that issue.

What if Las Vegas Blvd was permanently closed to traffic? It works in alot of tourist cities, and even on Fremont. Could it be done without major resort disruption? Stopping the human Frogger experience sure would be safer.

MGM has introduced a purgatory level of courtesy representation, the “VIP Representative”. Not a host. Not, not a host either. They’re just there to let you know that MGM would appreciate it if you spent your money with them, but you shouldn’t expect anything in return.

@jasonc_nc There’s something to be said to allowing sleeping on duty, even on shorter shifts. Adjusting sleep patterns too often isn’t healthy either.

Smaller trucks are “impossible” in American fire departments, but let’s discuss something even more sacrosanct: the 24 hour shift. Plus how it’s another example of negative life safety that’s too common in US departments. Numerous countries operate on ~10-12 hour shifts, in line with police & EMS. This also allows demand-based staffing - i.e. higher staffing for daytime, lower for evening. No sleeping overnight in the station for most personnel. The 24 hour shift isn’t based on public safety, but instead on tradition. Worse it is actively harmful to both the public AND firefighters as FDs have become high-frequency emergency response. For firefighters, a number of studies have landed on the same negative findings: -Higher injury rates -Greater cardiovascular risk (hypertension, stroke, heart disease) -higher mortality from heart attacks compounded by a combination of sleep loss, sudden physical exertion, and circadian disruption from irregular sleep patterns -Metabolic & endocrine issues (impaired glucose regulation, type 2 diabetes, reduced testosterone, etc) -Negative mental health outcomes -Cognitive impairment -Immune system suppression (linked to elevated cancer risks over time) -Reduced muscle strength and bone loss, increasing fracture risks later in life This chronic sleep loss follows firefighters past their working career - resulting in elevated risks of injury and mortality rates across a range of categories. Meanwhile negatives for the public are obvious: -Fatigue increases error rates, accident risk, impairs judgment in high-risk situations, and slows reflexes. -Cognitive impairment after 24 hours of being awake (remember, day starts before shift starts) is roughly equivalent to a blood alcohol level of 0.10. No one wants their moment of greatest need to be met by a fatigued firefighter with poor concentration, impaired judgement and memory lapses while operating at the level of someone who has had a solid night of drinking. But that’s ~exactly~ what we design the system for if you’re on the tail end of a 24 hour shift at a busy station, every day, across the country.

@jasonc_nc @tnertz Your math is off. 24/72 is typically 4 platoons, 24/48 is 3 platoons.

24/72 on/off with a A/B/C schedule. This format is more common in large cities. It’s also heavily baked into union contracts because it maximizes staff headcount while making second jobs easier. 24/48 seen more in smaller city, suburban departments because they can’t swallow the 3 platoon costs.

FDNY is one of the rare U.S. fire departments that doesn’t have 24 hour shifts, running a 9 hour day tour & 15 hour night tour. Ironically the vast majority do shift swaps to keep 24 hour shifts for the convenience of more days off despite negatives to public (and their) safety.
Jason,@jasonc_nc
