New specimen of the tiny dinosaur Alnashetri reveals alvarezsauroids got small a lot, and that there have been secret ones hiding in collections from across the world. Excited this project led by Pete Makovicky and Sebastian Apesteguía is out! Feel lucky to have joined!

AI is cool and all... but a new paper in @ScienceMagazine kind of figured out the origin of life? The paper reports the discovery of a simple 45-nucleotide RNA molecule that can perfectly copy itself.

Been a while since we last posted but that's bc we've been busy moving... to Portland, Oregon! Here's a first peek at our new space in the Central Eastside. To everyone who has supported us- thank you for getting us to this exciting next step in our growth as a small business!

@Davey_F_Wright oooooo, very exciting! I’ve been playing with some toy modern coexistence theory sims where Ki & Kij are functions of z. Was hoping to explicitly link to Price, so this is super cool & helpful

Here at Galadriel, we are building a different kind of AI. Instead of a Dark Lord, it will be a queen. Not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Tempestuous as the sea, and stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love it and despair!

@ShamebyJames2 @lxeagle17 @jbarro Broken hands specifically? Yeah sure rare. But acute sports injuries, particularly concussions, show up a lot in my experience. Plenty of non-acute reasons to argue against, but things like concussions are too common to be truly edge.

@lxeagle17 @jbarro I’d be shocked if broken hands were the reason for testing accommodations more than .01% of the times they are given. Edge cases don’t disprove the general point

@janecoaston That’s the other mistake, yeah? Like 37 is *pretty close* to 40 in a way that 15 is very much not close to 18. 3 years means different things at different ages!

We lost Mark Norell today. Dinosaur hunter extraordinaire. The coolest dude alive. My PhD supervisor. Wherever you are, raise a glass of your favorite lager or single malt, as it is what Mark would want.

These cool results speak to the power of tracking complicated mating patterns across long-term datasets. These types of multi-generational environmental benefits may be more common, but are simply hard to detect! journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/73… 8/8

Have you ever wondered what factors shape the processes of morphological evolution? And how might innovations arise and contribute to patterns of diversification? Our new paper uses 3D CT scans of tetraodontiform fishes to explore these questions. doi.org/10.1093/evolut… 1/15
