On May 8, 2025 I underwent spinal fusion surgery, a 6 hour procedure in which I was filleted from front to back. First, my abdomen was opened up so that the surgeon could scrape out the disc between L5 and S1, replacing it with a perforated cage containing bone grafting material that was screwed into my vertebra. Then I was flipped over and opened up on my back so that my surgeon could screw vertical rods into L5 and S1 to secure my spine position to ensure the fusion sets properly. The procedure was successful, correcting 15 years of lower back debilitation due to severe Spondylolisthesis. However, the recovery process demanded I endure far more than I bargained for, debilitating me in ways I thought might handicap me permanently. For the first 3 months I could barely move. For the first six months my activity was limited to walking only. Pain was constant. At nine months I was still in so much discomfort, still so limited in my range of motion, still too unstable to do anything to elevate my heart rate. My weight ballooned. My muscles atrophied. My mood plummeted. And I was becoming resigned to the idea that my athletic identity (let alone performing extreme feats of ultra-endurance) was a thing of the past, a memory well behind me. But very slowly after that I began to turn a corner. At ten months, I finally felt stable enough to resume a very modest non-spine compressing return to fitness exercise regimen. Zone 1 indoor cycling, gentle core work, extremely low weight / high rep resistance training. Proceeding on a ‘less is more’ mandate in late November (which demands discipline for someone like myself prone to taking everything to the extreme, I just showed up every single morning to do what I could, and stop well before doing more than I should. Today I am down 35 pounds from November (207 to 171) including a body fat reduction from 20% to 11%. More importantly, I am beginning to feel like myself again. Grateful and hopeful. I still have a long way to go—it takes 12-18 months for the fusion to fully set. My surgeon was not optimistic that I will be able to run again. Time will tell of course, but I’m confident that provided I continue to proceed patiently that I have a future in which running can become part of my new reality. Towards that end I have a goal—which is to celebrate my 60th birthday this Fall by participating in the NYC Marathon. But here’s the thing. I’m not trying to return to who I once was. I’ve leaned into the stillness this experience has demanded of me to become someone new and better. I am posting this story not for external validation but rather to say that change is always possible. And the way to do it is the same way I have navigated every one of my many life transformations, from alcoholism to sobriety, from sedentary to middle aged ultra endurance athlete, and from a corporate lawyer career to becoming an author and podcaster: getting sober and staying sober: by taking contrary action consistently and religiously—one day at a time. As Chris Paul said on my podcast, “keep stacking days.” And remember, every obstacle life presents you is simply an opportunity custom-designed for your growth and evolution.

This concerted act of treason by a cabal of conspirators has been referred to the Department of Justice for criminal investigation. This attempted destruction of an American Presidency was of the same magnitude as the Lincoln coup. Those conspirators were tried and hanged.

Declassified reports from DNI Gabbard unveils a chilling coup d'état against President Trump by the CIA, the former President of the United States and his entire administration with the media backing them every step of the way. Obama’s intel team fabricated the Russia/Trump collusion narrative to undermine the election of Donald Trump. Tulsi Gabbard’s findings expose a rushed, doctored CIA assessment, orchestrated to mislead the American people ahead of an election to sway their votes away from Donald Trump. That's election interference - direct Treason. The House intel report, hidden for nearly a decade, reveals Barack Obama’s direct role. CIA analysts were pressured to push false claims. No evidence supported the collusion hoax. DNI Gabbard: “We have referred all documents to the DOJ for criminal investigation." “The evidence directly points to President Obama leading the manufacturing of this intelligence assessment.” The report details a secret CIA operation, led by disgraced former CIA Director John Brennan, ignoring standard protocols. This wasn’t intelligence, it was DIRECT political sabotage eroding trust in the very institutions that are supposed to work FOR the President of the United States and the American citizens. That's FAR from what they were doing. Treason Doesn't Pay Well In The End.

🚨 Simulation Theory: The Double Slit Experiment proves particles act like waves until observed then they snap into particles. What if our reality only "renders" when we're looking, just like a video game optimizing resources? Check out this episode from The Why Files breaking it down, tying it to Simulation Theory. Are we in a sim? This could be the key to unlocking the true nature of existence! The Why Files video did a great job on explaining the Double Slit Experiment & Simulation Theory What do YOU think—real or rendered? Drop your thoughts below!

Oxytocin is more than the “cuddle hormone.” It may be a key regulator of aging and longevity. We've long known about oxytocin's role in translating social experiences into physiological health and stress resilience. New research identifies the biological mechanism. Oxytocin levels decline with age, leading to epigenetic remodeling, mitochondrial dysfunction, and chronic inflammation. Restoring oxytocin levels reverses these changes. This points to a profound idea: cultivating strong social ties throughout adulthood can mitigate this loss of oxytocin signaling and promote robust health and resilience against stress and disease. As sterile-sounding as it might seem, it's a strong argument to think about intimate bonds and social interactions as pro-longevity interventions. They're not optional.

The Iranian regime executed a 19 year old for demanding democracy. I stand with his memory and the thousands of other young Iranians. Those who grieve the elimination of Iranian leaders over murdered protesters is telling.
Masih Alinejad 🏳️@AlinejadMasih

Today, in Iran, in the middle of a war, the regime executed a 19-year-old national wrestling champion for the crime of joining January protests. 💔 After signaling to the world, including President @realDonaldTrump, that they would halt executions of protesters, the regime has done the exact opposite. Three young protesters, Saleh Mohammadi, Mehdi Ghasemi, and Saeed Davoudi, were hanged in Qom after a sham trial. Reports indicate torture. Forced confessions. No access to chosen lawyers. Closed-door proceedings. No right to appeal. I call on @GlobalAthleteHQ to stand with Iranian athletes who are being silenced, imprisoned, and executed simply for raising their voices. This is not just about sports. This is about human dignity.

Consuming around 75 grams of added sugar is enough to temporarily drop your testosterone by ~25% That’s about as much sugar as you'd get from a donut and a soda Research shows this testosterone drop occurs within just 2 hours, driven in part by insulin spikes interfering with hormonal signaling While the dip is temporary, regularly snacking on sugar-loaded, ultra-processed foods likely means frequent hormonal disruptions, impacting mood, energy, and muscle mass

83% of Americans agree on voter ID. 71% of Democrats agree on voter ID. Keep it basic: PHOTO ID to vote. Stop turning this into a Christmas list and attacking vote-by-mail. If GOP wants real reform over a show vote––put out a clean, standalone bill and I’m AYE.

Regular alcohol intake strongly drives visceral fat gain and fatty liver When you drink, your liver prioritizes metabolizing alcohol above everything else (fat metabolism, glucose regulation, and other key metabolic processes all take a backseat) At the same time, alcohol compromises the gut barrier, allowing more inflammatory signals through, triggering a stress response, and disrupting glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity Over time, that means more visceral fat, an inflamed and fibrotic liver, and impaired blood sugar control
