@BlueBoxDave So much to be said. I've talked a lot about how if a political figure consumes so much of your thinking and effects your sleep, relationships, and impairs relationships, then we have what is starting to look a lot like established disorders (or just really bad coping skills!)

Agree, we can't ignore the social contagion part of this. I'll add, some people feel they have to hate Trump for fear of being ostracized from their communities, families, etc. There's a big segment of the population who are effectively closeted or shy Trump supporters.

“In the case of both TDS and trans identity, both mass hysterias, outside elements are not just influencing the behavior, they are constantly reinforcing it; it doesn’t primarily exist inside the individual, but rather everywhere outside the individual.”

Snippet #2 We've created an environment that encourages people to wallow in their struggles, to fixate on their weaknesses, and to wear their victimhood as a badge of honor. Mental health awareness, which should empower people to overcome challenges, has instead led them to cling to fragility, never moving beyond the past. This mindset has spread from therapy offices into every sector of society. It's reshaping the world around us. In schools, academic standards are lowered to accommodate insecurities and self-esteem levels, which can often get conflated with real clinical deficiencies or disabilities. In the workplace, resilience is seen as less important than emotional accommodation. And in social movements, hardship is elevated into a form of absolute moral authority. The result is a culture that rewards staying broken, instead of pushing people to become stronger. @JonathanAlpert a.co/d/0d9uglOy

Snippet #1 The last paragraph of the Introduction: “We need to build a society that's resilient— capable of facing personal and national challenges without relying on a therapist's validation. Even if you're not in therapy, have no plans to be, or even know anyone who is, I can promise you that an overtherapized, anxious, divided nation is your problem, too. @JonathanAlpert a.co/d/0d9uglOy

Therapy culture escaped the therapist’s office and started reshaping politics, relationships, schools, and everyday life. Now we have a culture where everyone feels wounded, nobody feels responsible, and blame has become an identity. #TherapyNation My latest in @TheFP: thefp.com/p/therapy-cult…
