@jen_keesmaat For 1: visitors have already made a decision to rent a car before they take off. Putting a sign there isn't going to convince them to cancel and lose their rental deposit.

Toronto won’t solve congestion by relying on officers waving cars through intersections. The real issue is the sheer volume of vehicles entering the core. Our sprawling region means any new capacity is quickly filled with more cars. This car-centric approach only worsens the problem. As a dense urban city, Toronto must focus on: 1. Promoting transit: Visitors should be encouraged to use public transport like the UP Express. Pearson International should feature clear signage urging people to take transit rather than drive into the core. 2. Walkability: Let visitors know that driving into downtown is not practical. Instead of pretending there’s space, we should be honest and promote parking-and-walking as the better option. 3. Expanding bike share: Discounted day passes and widespread advertising of bike share can get visitors moving easily. Expand stations, run free blitz days, and place ambassadors at Union Station to assist newcomers. 4. Congestion pricing: The most effective tool for reducing congestion, as seen in London and NYC. Since NYC implemented charges for rideshare vehicles, getting around has become noticeably easier—Toronto should follow suit. Toronto’s stuck in the past, clinging to outdated solutions. It’s time to adopt forward-thinking strategies to meet the needs of our growing population and sprawling region. We have the tools—we just need the will. thestar.com/entertainment/… via @torontostar

@DerrickSimpson_ I didn't know we had a "tree canopy," at least not by the surface area dedicated to surface parking.

@DerrickSimpson_ I've been using my bicycle twice a week now for in-town errands. My head just closed up from surgery a few weeks ago and it's good to be back in time for the good weather. Doesn't take much longer than driving in the city, but also good for my health.

@ABetterOttawa Freedom of movement needs to come with accessible means of movement. It's useless to say you are allowed go anywhere if you can't go from Ottawa to Kemptville on public transportation.

@ProfAllan Can he be sued for libel by the journalist? Members' speech is only protected in the chamber.

In less than three minutes, Poilievre accuses a Canadian Press reporter half a dozen times of being a biased mouthpiece for Trudeau. Challenging journalists is totally legit, but vilifying them, accusing them of taking bribes, is dangerous behaviour that undermines our democracy.

@ABetterOttawa People go on holiday to pedestrian neighbourhoods, like Main Street USA in Disneyland. Yet, they refuse to do anything to live in them.

@Charlie_Senack I don't step onto ice unless I either know the water's only waist high or it's an official ice activity area (managed ice road, managed rink, etc.). Did some risky ice things as a teen by it was only in a shallow area where the water was knee-deep.

17-year-old Ahmed Haitham has been identified as the first victim who fell through the ice near Manotick last night. The John McCrae High School student was going skating with friends. A memorial has been started outside his Barrhaven home. #ottnews

@siobhanwanders Traffic engineering studies (and economists) say this is a tragedy of the commons. Tolling roads will increase scarcity, not waiving sticker fees.

Autowa is exhausting. Absolutely ridiculous Bank St and QED traffic tonight. Vehicles were blocking almost every intersection. This is not sustainable. We need better transit on Bank St. #Autowa #Ottawa

@DerrickSimpson_ People enjoy spending time in neighborhoods that were built before zoning law was in place or when they could bribe an inspector to look away. Clearly, something worked.

@bipbipletucha A regional rail system running parallel to the 400-series running every 20 minutes throughout southern and eastern ON. Then toll the highways on a per-km basis for cost recovery. Nobody asks who pays for highways when we got rid of sticker fees.

The 401 is the busiest highway in North America. Has anyone thought about running a train in the middle of it?

@DerrickSimpson_ Is this the average listing price (which would be unoccupied) or the actual price people are paying right now (which would include rent-controlled rates from years ago)?
